Back when I had the triple-CCC setup on my Maelstrom, I routinely took Guristas missions. Of course, that was using a full rack of meta-4 1400's, dedicating the mid-slots to tank (either double-kinetic/double-thermal, or kinetic, thermal, invul, and Ladar ECCM), and taking advantage of the long falloff you get from artillery. I got a sort of visceral glee out of one-shotting Gurista battlecruisers.

That's probably the only way to do it: dedicate all mids to tank.

It's one way to do it, that's for sure; the 1400s' CPU and powergrid demands make the fitting incredibly tight, but a thousand-plus-DPS burst tank, plus the Guristas' odd habit of often holding range pretty much right in the sweet spot of a full rack of 1400's, makes it somewhat easier than full-gank, paper-tank setups. Guristas Extravaganza, including the bonus room, is rather a cakewalk with an XL-booster/amp/triple-hardener setup.

Bouncer II x4

Here is my take on the PVE MJD maelstrom. The ship is not really optimal for this, but this fit is as strong as the MJD sniper setup goes without bling. The main issue is working in falloff always when not using tremor. Tremor DPS is anemic and the only suitable ammo type is faction race specific IMHO. On the other hand, 1400's cycle time saves on the faction ammo cost.

DPS: 920 with RF FU+ bouncers, around the 900 mark against other factions using different sentries. Gardes are out of the question at the range.
Range: Guns 40+80, sentries 80-100 optimal, 120+ falloff. The rule of thumb is "your dps gets halved every falloff after optimal".

So, you'll be working in falloff with this. The upside is the split weapon system where sentries apply nice damage boost to large vessels and gun groups cycle down small things on approach, or vice versa. The other upside is tracking is removed from the equation and pretty much most of your paper DPS is applied.

The lack of tank and drones might be worrying, but worry not - they are in your cargohold along with mobile depot.

Is it good? Honestly, it works in falloff just like the autocannon version, and maelstrom is sub par nowadays as is. But I consider this an interesting take on it in the least, and doing approx 500-900dps on approaching rats is not bad by any means. EWAR is also diminished at the range, which is a benefit over the autocannon version. I would certainly give this a go if I were to fit a PVE maelstrom for L4. One thing to note is it takes almost perfect fitting, turret and drone skills to shine so it's more of a roleplay boat in practise as you should be flying a shiny with that kind of skillpoints.
