Donate $200k to charity and lay off staff a week later right at Christmas. Well played CCP

So a senior PR acknowledged, 15 devs have been laid off from the Atlanta office, right before Christmas.

Looks like when Reykjavik sneezes, Atlanta gets decimated... What?

Kind of reminds me of a job I used to work at where they up and laid off the entire housekeeping and landscaping departments (and then probably deported them). It even happened about this same time of the year and everyone agreed it was a **** move, but not to the boss's face of course.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure timing of layoffs has more to do with calendar years and fiscal quarters than some silly sky fairy holiday.

What does Christmas have to do with anything? If these people had no savings and could only afford presents if their check clears in time then they couldn't afford presents at all. Whether they were laid off now or in June their income is gone just the same. If they live paycheck to paycheck then that is their choice and should not be a consideration of CCP or any other company when these kinds of decisions must be made.

Jeez, do kids still expect presents for a 'silly sky fairy story' annual event?

So when is WoD going to finally be shuttered, and efforts redirected to EVE, Dust 514 and Valkyrie?

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

World of Darkness wasn't producing anything. Are you people really so mentally deficit as to think you can produce nothing of any substance for years and still get to keep your job?

Losses in the US, new office in England-- loss of WoD, addition of Valkyrie. I'll take that trade.

Hopefully they do Valkyrie right and keep it VR and cross-platform compatible without trying to microtransaction the hell out of it.

What, you've never worked for the government?

That said, actually they've produced everything CCP corporate has directed them to. The real problem is that, like eve, they've had devs and resources constantly stripped for other projects. Unlike eve, their game hadn't shipped before CCP got distracted.

Well it was CCP that wrote the check and the money came straight from them. However with the slight plex vacuum this created plex prices will go up and so they'll be more valuable, over time this will mean that CCP will earn the money back from more plex purchases.

So in reality the money that was given was raised by CCP in the future, interesting way to think about it :)

Layoffs happen for other reasons besides negative financial issues, banks have them all the time in a bid to increase profits. Its smart to keep your business lean and only government tend to keep people on who are not essential

between the various art teams, design teams, animation teams, coders, engineers, etc..., 15 people is usually a fairly small portion of an MMO dev team.

It sucks for the people that lost their jobs, but its hardly the end of the world (of darkness)

Wow, you are seriously some kind of humanitarian.

I bet you think that sending all those clothing mfg jobs to Bangladesh is a sign of great largesse by big business, not some money grab on the backs of the most desperate. Do you also believe that by eliminating unemployment payouts you are helping those people by "encouraging" them to find work as soon as possible?
