Short range (1k) gun for Myrmidion?

I'm a recently returned player. Currently I'm mission grinding (don't have loads of play time so that may be my fate for a while). I have 10k guns that do pretty well, but I have a few 1k guns that while at optimal range don't really do squat.

I have a Heavy Ion Blaster I (medium charges) and a 150MM Railgun I (small charges).

Any tips for me to help land some hits and make 'em hurt?

Thanks!

if you can get close enough use the blasters

otherwise your main form of attack is drones

the medium guns will only be really effective against cruiser or larger sized targets, otherwise use drones and or web the frigates so that you can actually hit them

What he said. Smaller targets are harder to hit as well as faster moving targets and smaller normally =faster. WHen they get close to you which frigs normally do it is hard if not impossable to hit.

Get drone skills drones kill frigates this will be more the case the bigger your ship unless you can 1-2 shot em when they are still far out. Look into weapons upgrades and add tracking enhancers to incress your odds against fast moving targets. Also train the various turrant skills that effect all turrents, all of them but in particular the ones that incress range and acurcy and tracking speed. I do not recale the exact names off the top of my head but a quick look in the gunnery section in market and you will find them.

Target painters help to the inctress the size of ships they are targeting this will help you hit smaller ships and do more damage to larger ships as well.

If you want to go more off the beaten path a web is always handy to stop those speedy monsters and make them nice targets. This is not the common route and while everyone has their own style probaly not the best. (PvE for PvP webs are used very offten)

But get drones and like all weapon systems drones have additinal skills that effect range speed dmg you should learn as well.

Also dont Mix guns either go long range or go short. Neither does well at the other so you are crippling your ship. If you use long range stay the distance and run the oppisite direction pulling them allong behind you (frigs will catch you the bigger the ship the slower you go so get drones) If blaster I suggest an Afterburrner or my Fav for speedy missions MWD and get in there. Longrange will take longer but you will be safer, normally. Short higher dmg but you will be in the middle of it all. Also some missions will require you to always being at a distance so best to use long range and some will put you right in the mist of the enemy on warp ins so best to use close nothing saying you can't train both rails and blasters.

Hope that helps.

Firstly you're mixing gun types (short and long), which is generally "a bad idea"
Secondly, you're mixing gun sizes (small and med) which is also a bad idea.

If you're grinding low level (1,2) missions, a cruiser fitted with small guns should suffice (note, small guns are undersized weapons for cruisers). If you're in level 3 missions, you'll want a battlecruiser (Brutix if you have better gunnery than drone skills, Myrmidon if you have better drone than gunnery skills) with medium weapons.

edit -- derp, missed that you mentioned myrmi in the title.

Drones are your friend in that ship.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Hey, thanks for the tips everyone =)

I'm currently sitting on my level 5 heavy drone operation (ugggg how much longer lol) so yeah, drones out DPS me by about a million to one.

I'll look into some of the accuracy things to help. I also have a webifier, but rarely use it as I'm still getting used to seriously multitasking (doing tier 3 mission currently with little problems, there's just a lot going on most times).

again, thank you =)

You shouldn't be using Heavy drones for the same reason you shouldn't be using Battle SHip sized weapons, they are for larger ships and don't do as well on the smaller ones. As a rule:
Light=Frig
Med= Cruser
Heavy=BS

Than again I havn't flown Gallent other than a frig and the Dessy for a salvager before the ORE vacume and realize that you guys get ships with large bays ao if your running the mission with multiple sets of drones for diffrent ship types than that is the way to go and I am sorry for my previous asumption.

Also don't neglect core skills that support the other skills Tank is by far the best way to do damage in missions, mainly on the longerones with many ships that extra 5% dmg not going to help to much if you are warping out tu recharge/repaire 30x a mission. Again you didn't list to much where your problems are so I am just thinking of common overlooked things that new players make.

For the guns on a Myrm I would recommend sticking to long range rails to supplement your drone DPS.

You could also use small blasters to pop irritating frigates are close to you (so you don't need to pull your medium drones in, which should be out popping cruisers).

For gun mechanics;

Sig radius is the "size" of a ship in the game.
Speed is obviously as it states.

Both of these affect your chance to hit, chance of critical and the damage.

Optimal = full damage, Fall-off = down to half damage (it's a smooth transition), second fall-off = down to 0 damage.

So when you fit your ship you should carefully consider the size of the ship you want to shoot and the range at which you'll be shooting it.

So either you want rails for long range (as I said to supplement drone DPS), or you'll want some short range guns for popping frigs (as I said earlier). The aim of this is to reduce the time taken to finish a mission, netting you more isk. ^_^
