Risk vs. Reward

Risk vs. Reward is a catchphrase in these forums. And I think that it is a large part of the appeal of Eve. Every decision in the game is a mitigated risk and figuring that out is what makes this fun for me. But if we hold that as a standard then griefing is an ultimate failure. You can build a gank dessi on a trial account. Your risk is essentially about an hours work of loading skill ques. The same would hold true for ninjaing. Getting into a battle when you are pre-warned of your opponent's tank and damage type is very low risk. Some of us call it mission running. I am not suggesting a change in game mechanic. Nor am I whining about the current mechanic (I've been ganked. lazy Jita AP lost some pixles and iskeis. Not particularly upset about it. ) I am just saying that if you believe that this is a game of risk verses reward then you must believe that griefing has no place in it. If there is some risk I failed to notice point it out to me.

So if you fit spesifically for one type of damage and get hit with another, that was not a risk you took when fitting your ship? And when you undoc with it to do a mission, part of the risk you run should not be that someone might actually want to mess with you? I haven't got around to ninjaing yet, but it seems to me that if I do I take the risk of getting blown up. And if I try to grief your missionrunner I take the risk of loosing my own ship (unless the missionrunner is dense concord will deal with me?) and there not being loot enough from your ship to make up for my loss. Isn't that risk and reward on both sides? That said I'm biased. If I could fly something I could gank you in I quite likely would.

Well no nijaing is really ducks in a barrel. first off you are getting into a fight with someone ignorant enough to shoot the ninja. That is you are dealing with a player who has a poor understanding of the game, and especially game mechanics, to begin with. Most of the tougher missions require specific tank bacause the incoming DPS is both specific and large. For the same reason either the ship by nature tells you what sort of Dam it is applying (I'm looking at you Amaar) or the chances are rather high that they fit the Dam type most effective for the mission they are in. Finally when running a mission there is not a neutral logi and an Orca for ship swaps standing by. So a ninja stands a very low chance of getting blown up. If Concord aggroes yyou while ninjaing you are doing it wrong. So yes if you attempted to ninja me you would either play it smart and be a salvager (which is so/so on risk reward, you could catch rat aggro but outside of that it is free salvage) or you'd get Concorded for foolishness. Again it is very much legitimate as a game mechanic. But on a risk/ reward basis it ranks somewhere around mining.
