Who tried to siege the mighty Federal Navy Academy this time?

Fine, I'll get it started.

In my opinion keeping your word in eve is much the same everywhere, but that WH's are an area where the basic formula I would use is going to say it's more worthwhile. Essentially, I don't worry too much about keeping my word, unless it's in a small setting, where I have a legitimate chance to gain someone's good will/favor. Not to say I won't still break it, but if it doesn't hurt me, or I don't really care about the benefit too much, then I'm more likely to grab onto that potential favor owed/relationship.

I'm not much for arranged fights, so I'm not likely to ever agree to one, let alone break my word on it. However, if I tell someone I'll leave them alone while they roll the hole, and it benefits me for them to roll it, then I'll leave them alone. I try to avoid making promises of that sort if I don't intend to keep it, because I feel like I can get kills plenty of ways, but having people gain a bit of trust towards you often comes back to pay off. And most of the time it's in situations where I have already run the full course of what I planned to do. I usually don't talk to people until after a fight, or in situations I don't plan on fighting.

The way I look at it, word gets around. if the word is "never trust TF he looks like he's plotting to murder your horse and steal your baked goods" it's fine, right up until that time you take a slash in someone's eyes who you ought not to have, or helicopter **** your way into a situation you could get out of if only people could trust you, and vice versa.

I don't count arranged fights in this. That's irrelevant. You thought heron vs magnate would be e-honourable and you lost pixels because he brought a Sabre? Well toughen up princess. You should have had your own surprise up your sleeve.

Serious answer - doesn't matter if it's a 1v1 @ the sun or an agreement made. I'll stand by anything that is agreed to and would expect the same.

IMO anyone who can't could be setting themselves up for future speed humps on their road

I'm with Sith1s here. Arranged fights happen for a reason -- you both have scouts in the opposing sides hole. You won't fight due to whatever circumstances (10v30, you have no balls, sun is in your eyes, whatever). The only amicable solution is to either have an arranged fight or bail. Chances are, you'd like to fight (as would I), so you keep your word.

If you don't want an arranged fight because "LOL ARRANGED IS LAME AS ****" then just don't fight and leave it at that. Come on.

Its important to honor ransoms so that your victim will pay the ransom of the next guy as well, that's just common courtesy.
