So i have been looking around and I, for some crazy idea, want to ask the internet what they think about a car i am looking at. There are multiple of the ones i am looking at for sale in my area so getting the right price is not the problem (most have clean carfax and under 70k mi).

I am looking at a Pontiac Solstice GXP Convertible (Black). What are peoples thoughts on the car? I am thinking after market black rims later on.

Parts might be expensive as they don't make those anymore. Looks nice though, don't forget to check the bluebook value.

Slightly less girly then the Mazda Miata but definitely still in the "chick car" category.

I agree with plunderbunny here, cars are moving obstacles with 6 wheels(thats 3 times the amount you'd need) that, if you are lucky, gets you dry and awake at your destination.

Don't get me wrong, theye have their uses, mainly moving crap around and keeping you safer when its snowing or the roads are iced over, but theye are not fun. I mean, how often do you hear someone say theye are going for a spin with their car, even if said car is a convertible or sports car or something that's supposedly fun to drive?

In all seriousness though, it looks like a car you get cause you think the car would be fun to drive. Unless you allready enjoy driving, and I mean going for a drive with your car just for the sake of driving it, I really think you would be better of getting a bike instead

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

To the OP:

Sorry for getting in late on this thread. My 2 ISK:

The biggest mistake in getting a car that involves looks/style of driving/etc. is asking someone else's PERSONAL opinion. As an owner of a variety of cars (sport exotic, classic convertible,4 wheel drive off road, daily driver) there will always be a person that hates EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM.

Your best bet is to find out what you like and shop price. After that look at several reviews online/in print that will give you some objective data as to the good or bad points about your car. Also, in order to balance the idiocy of "you should get a motorcycle" when asking a clear question about a car, you should Google up a fan forum on the model of your car (they exist). Spend a day or three sifting through the threads looking for good/bad points. After that, make a decision and have fun Lol

BTW, I have also looked at that car as a play car to sit at the summer home. It's a car with great looks, good following, plenty of parts available. More convertible fun than performance, but you decide what is important to you. And besides, everything with the top down seems to go 50 MPH faster than it really does Twisted.

Other options that come to mind (excluding classic Triumphs/Lotus/MG/etc.) :

Miata/MX-5 -less style IMHO and the poster above is correct in that it has a feminine slant to it according to the auto community. That is NOT the case in racing SPEC Miata/Flying Miata V8's, etc.

Jaguar XKR - Rarely talked about. Gorgeous car that can be had for 10,000USD......really

Lotus Elise - used in the 20K's easy. Great fun (I have driven them and own the big brother, the Evora S) but an expensive fix. Plus if you have no dealer in your area you life becomes.......interesting.
