I don't really have all the details.. but apparently the guys making ST:IS were bought by other guys.. and they've decided to shut down projects that were not meeting "growth expectations". ST:IS is one of those projects.

Don't have to take my word for it.. just go to the website. To those of us who couldn't care less just know that the other ST MMO has been shut down and won't happen.

I figured that P2W, Top Down, Browser Game would be trashed the second I heard the words Star Trek Online and Free to Play uttered in the same sentence,

STO is huge by comparison,

ST: Online != ST: Infinity.

What was Star Trek IS going to offer differently then STO?

I have not played ether though I followed IS for a while. I still don't know the gist of it.

Well, for starters it would lack the awful "comic book" feel that STO has going for.

STO is combat-oriented MMO that was of the same grindy standard as so many others. Its combat system was ok, but personally when I think of Star trek I think of puzzle solving, not combat.

and that conflict is a BIG part of why they failed.

I, personally, am more reminded by the combat scenes, particularly the epic ship vs ship battles in ST. But then again, Im one of those that thinks a big part of Star Wars was the ships lol

They couldnt rectify the fights between the "we need this to be a fully diplomatic game" people with the "Moar combat" types like me, so they pretty much lost them all.

Oh and they put Bill Roper in charge of design. That man has the "**** Midas Touch". Everything he touches turns to **** and the worse thing is he seems to revel in it.
