This is not true. I accidentally used a smart bomb while I was mining in a small ship. Some other miner had a droid close by and Concord wasted me in 2 secs. This person then placed Kill Rights on me and gave them away for free to two other players. The KR lasts 30 days. I tried to pay off the person but he wanted no part. 40MM ship blown apart in Jita and my pod. I thought it was finally over, Guess What? the other two kill rights that this guy sold for 0 ISK are still active!! And guess what more? They can still sell the KR for 0 ISK during the 30 days - What's really the point of this punishment? So I have lost 2 ships already with another two potential looking over my shoulder, basically held hostage, over a stupid tiny mistake. The punishment for my mistake doesnt fit the crime and I am about to quit the game because I don't pay money to a game to be held hostage for 30 days. Better to quit 30 days and return when the KR disappears. Whoever created this stupid punishment didnt think out all the outcomes or probably didnt care. Sorry for the vent.

This makes perfect sense.

So the real trick, if you feel like exploiting game mechanics (and who doesn't?) is to have a corpmate or someone you trust (or 2nd account alts) activate the killright on you while you're in a rookie ship. Ship is blown up, killright is used up, warp your pod back home safely.

I don't know that I'd call this a "real trick". Blink If only people knew better than to activate killrights on Vindicators sitting on station undock, we might actually get some fun out of the mechanic.

The killright only lasts for one kill, the suspect timer will last a full 15 minutes though, once used it expires and will not last the remainder of the 30 days :)

You had to set your safety to RED to even use that smart bomb. There is a big warning that comes up when you do that. In this case I think the stupid was punished just about fairly.

Hi there.

Could somebody please explain how the following is possible?

I enter Jita and hit the "fly to and dock" button on a station. I arrive at the station and in the time it takes to exit warp and dock, I get killed.

I had no timers pending at all but had received a kill right earlier from a player I killed in low-sec.

I'm not familiar with the public side of the kill right system as I have come back to EVE after a long break. I read the email which said "the kill right on you has been made available to all for 0 isk" after making the kill but didn't know what it meant. Please explain how this means I can be podkilled at any time in hi-sec by any pilot without any warning... Do they have to purchase the kill rights through some form of menu system? Or do I appear as a criminal on their overview and can be shot immediately by any pilot without consequence? I was aware they/their corp could exact revenge but it was not them.

This seems to me to be a stupid mechanic - what's the point of the criminal and suspect timers with this in effect? Why would someone ever charge more than 0 ISK to have revenge exacted for them?

What am I missing here, this seems incredibly dumb and it's cost me an industrial ship and full set of implants.

I'd say you're missing an industrial ship and a full set of implants :) Look on the bright side, it is extremely funny and a lot of people got a good laugh out of it. That has to make it worth while.

You ganked someone's Hulk, and then died. How is that unfair or dumb? There are consequences to actions in Eve.
