2nd character or 2nd account: would either be useful for me?

This is the first Steam sale I've actually paid attention to and there are quite a few other sites, Steam included, that have special promotions with EVE starter packs for under $3.

I have one character on one account and I enjoy being versatile with him. However, would there be any benefit to buying one of these starter packs? I believe I can use them on a 2nd character (i.e. I don't have to make a new account entirely), but the plan would be to take advantage of the Cerebral Accelerator, just have the guy mine, and then, at the end of the 30 days, transfer all assets to my main and delete that character. I guess it only works if I could train both characters at the same time and also have them mine at the same time...

All I want to do is supplement my main; I have no interest in paying for more than one character/account. I figure I'm overlooking something and this is just a pointless waste of time and money, though.

Sorry for being teh nub. Thanks in advance.

If I ever saw CCP Falcon's character in real life I think I'd politely ask him to kick my ass just so I could brag about it.

Since it's literally $1, I'd say you can make more ISK than the PLEX exchange rate even with a humanly possible playtime.

Hm. Well, answers to these next few questions will pretty much tell me what I should do:

- Can I open EVE twice on my computer (only have one monitor, though...) and have both accounts mine and train skills at the same time?

- Would I have to make a new account or just create a new character to use one of these starter packs?

- Can I simply delete the new character (or account) after I've used up the 30 days? Don't know how long inactive characters/accounts last for (a few weeks, months, indefinitely, etc).

Thank you for the replies, thus far.

A few days ago someone was complaining that they couldn't run two through steam. Basically, you need to log in with the eve client to have multiple clients open, steam only allows one client.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Well that's good news, then. I don't run EVE through Steam so if I open one through Steam and another how I normally do (from the desktop) I should be able to run both games side-by-side.

Half of the first question answered, 2.5 more to go! Lol Thank you, Iria.

Only one character per account can be logged in at the same time. By default you can only train one character per account, you can activate multiple character training with PLEXes (one PLEX per additional character per month). Therefore if you want to train and use both characters at the same time, you will need to create a new account.

You need to create a new account to take advantage of pretty much any bonus "starter pack".

You can delete a character freely, this process takes 10 hours. You can not delete an account, you can only let its subscription expire - but the account stays inactive forever. Characters on inactive accounts won't be deleted either.

Its important to distingiush the two different ways of doing this:

a) Plex the two "free" alts on your main account.

These two "free "alts are playable immediately but have minimal starter skills (basically can fly a racial frigate and that is it) and will likely need a few weeks to a months training to be actually useful. To make them actually useful you therefore need to either spend a PLEX on multi character training or stop training your main for a few weeks.

Once trained up to do PI or mine or haul or whatever these two characters are available whenever your main account is paid up even if no longer training BUT you cannot multibox, its a "log out of your main log into the alt" situation.

b) Plex a second account.

This type of alt can multibox and be played at the same time as your main but is only available while the second account is paid up.

NOTE The first type of alt is ideal for things like a PI alt with 4 or 5 lowsec planets that you log into once or twice a week to collect goodies which you contract across to your main for further industry processing and sale and is also good for "market alts" in trade centres. The first type clearly is also ideal for "corporate spy" characters. People will sometimes also use the first type where they have pure PvP and seperate PvE missioning characters that they never need to log in at the same time.

The second type suits cases where you want both online at once, for example a mining alt or mining ops hauling alt or a salvage alt to accompany your main mission running.
