A couple things you are doing wrong I would say.

You need to wait for them to aggress and then they can't simply jump into high sec.

If they jump into high sec with a criminal flag then concord will be happy to remove them from their ship then.

Have a cyno black ops friend or a friend with a cyno friend so you can hot drop some hurt on them.

Hence the "not trying to warp your pod out" bit. I've looked at the killboards and they seem happy to pod people, so it shouldn't be difficult.

camping a gate is not farming isk.

camping the same low-hi gate is pretty repeatable behavior and unless they're super-skittish and thus aren't actually killing anything, baiting and killing one of them should be a simple matter for a small gang that has a plan.

This is typical high-sec gameplay, made viable just by the specifics HS "protection" mechanics.

devs are lazy, push them out of theit comfort zone.

Get them aggressed, get point, then jump/bridge in friends to bump them off the gate. Jam and scan res damp, proceed with slaughter.

If you don't calculate the jump to lightspeed correctly, you could end up inside a star. Boom. P

And that's after flying for months/years to the multi-lightyears-apart system you're trying to reach with the warp drive's limited FTL capability.
