Goons consistently come across as better or, at least, saner, people than their detractors.

Goons are just people playing a video game.

Their detractors are people who are infuriated by the goons playing a video game.

At the risk of further white-knighting the goons (can goons give me a Medal for best Fluffer or something?). Yea, I think that way too, mainly because it seems llike they can keep video games in the proper context where as the people who hate on them come off as delusional and too involved in things.

Goons are hardly the only players in game who would sell their virtual mothers for a little bit of ISK or 15 minutes of fame.

Having said that, EVE is a game. And like any other game, people tend to be the assholes online which they aren't in real life. Mitanni is a good example. Many people consider him a first class ******* while he's a pretty cool guy in real life.

Wrong. People aren't the same assholes IRL becaues there are real life consequences to being an ******* when someone has the ability to actually punch your face in and leave you disabled. When you have anonymity, you have no social inhibitions and you can be who you truly are.

Really? You are new to facebook comments, where people have their idiocy for their friends and family and co-workers to see.

Just because you lose your social inhibitions when hiding behind an NPC alt and act like you really want to, does not mean everyone else does.

Alternatively, yes, I actually want to run people over in cars like i do in GTA Roll

And, I am impressed by your ablity to personally know all X thousand members of CFC and Goons. How you get anything done in game while fostering these relationships is beyond me.

You can't equate what you SIMULATE doing to NPCs to that of what you ACTUALLY do to real people in a game. That is idiocy.

The 'no chatter' channel. This is a special mumble channel where you can only hear the FC and no one else on a fleet operation.

Also- tell me more about decency and respect in internet spaceships

W/r/t the NPC alt, I wonder if I should just pre-empt the whole YOU ARE A BAD PERSON finger-wagging by adding something like "I am a terrible human being who makes inappropriate jokes after five jagerbombs, which is indeed unique in the history of mankind. I also use profanity, gank, grief, and scam." into my forum sig. Thoughts?

Ah, yes, blame the alcohol. The drug that makes you lose your inhibitions. Truth syrum they call it. Blink

Truth hurt? Logic stands. Still wondering what you tell yourself everyday. That self-clowning was pretty intense. Made me smile like justice was being done. Cool

So were you renting space that's now full of bombers and/or timers, or did you send someone ISK because goonfleet.net looked so very like a real website?

I have plenty of that as well in my real life, I'm not quite understanding what that has to do with pixelated avatars flying internet spaceships.. a lot of folks are unable to separate the two and become emotionally attached to digital properties.

Goon Justice is harsh and swift. Just yesterday someone posted a reall bad thread in SGBS and our mighty Tech Priest Solo Drakban rolled the dice and he can now only read the glory of goonfleet.com and not be a part of it.

Thus is the sacred word of Lowtax.

These threads are always funny. Basically, you want to be able to say 'goons are terrible human beings in real life; they are the Other, they are a cancer on Eve'. The same crap BoB said, back in the day.

Let's assume it's true. So what? Perhaps we are awful, sociopathic people. You wag your finger at us in a thread and feel momentarily superior. Now what?

Is there ever a time when you look at your virtual table scraps and wonder if it was worth it? I personally would never want to join the largest "winning" team in any game because I know such groups are full of people who are afraid to really challenge themselves and can't handle being the underdog. They also home to the most obnoxious, blameless elitist dicks who are usually crap when it comes to actual player skill. Is there ever a time when you resent your fellow power tools and wonder if being on the "winning team" is really worth it?

Other people have made some very good responses but I want to address what I consider to be a false assumption in your post, specifically that we somehow become goons in order to "be on the winning side." There are some who do indeed do this, and they are routinely disparaged. Most of us, however, were goons before we ever logged in to Eve, because we are members of the SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM comedy and discussion forums. That's actually what "goon" in this particular context (yes, Rekon X, I know you want to show everyone that you've learned how to use a dictionary but context is everything when it comes to meaning) actually means, a member of SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM, who may not have even heard of Eve Online (there are plenty of non-gamers). And while it is extremely gratifying to be such a major power in this game, most if not all of us would be in our alliance even if it was the very least, because we share a common sense of humor and overall internet culture that unites us in spite of otherwise diverse backgrounds.

In summary, we didn't choose the winning side, we just are the winning side.

Eve is a competitive game. Respect and decency is to be expected... Towards corpmates and allies. The goons are hell bent on winning eve, so don't be surprised by some... rough behavior.

If you want respectful enemies, join RvB ;)

The entire argument, whatever it was, failed right there ;)

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

We don't need to say it, as if it is a claim. You have proven it in front of a video camera. There is no moment of superiority, it is a consistent feeling.

"Now what?" gradually comes to those who are questioning whether being a tool for such jaded juveniles, surrounded by opportunists, hipsters and virtue-less lapdogs, is really worth it, and this thread is a part of that.
