A fact? Yes. Unalterable? I very much hope not.

Certainly alterable. Just not easily so. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the Federation and Republic didn't force this alliance.

I very much think we have more in common than our more readily discussed differences, and would think that our mutual alliances would take more to be derailed than the political disagreements of capsuleers. Our empires are somewhat more rational than nullsec entities.

However, pleasant discussions on the many things we have in common aren't of much particular interest on forums such as these.

Mr stitcher, I recognize you are a man of resolve and conviction, and it seems that we are unlikely to gain anything by further debate tonight. I appreciate your offering your opinion, and I have attempted to present mine.

Thank you all for your input, but this discussion is now closed.

Thank you and God bless.

Aww man. He's going home and he's taking his ball with him. Whatever shall we do now that we're no longer allowed to play? I mean, surely he has the authority to decide when we get to discuss these things, yes?

Oh, and Constantin? The things we have in common often turn out to be things we either shouldn't be too proud of, or things we already have in common with everyone else too.

Perhaps you would like to elaborate? I certainly think we have a lot of commendable attributes in common. Our cultures value the health of the nation over the well-being of the individual. We have strict codes of conduct that define us as people and unite us internally rather than fostering a fractious culture. We strongly enforce a culture of responsibility rather than asking for people to assume the responsibility of citizenship whenever they feel like it.

It seems most of our differences are semantic or, in the case of slavery, procedural. Our cultures have quite a lot more in common, even more so than other empires like the Gallente and Matari (something I've raised before). I hardly think those aspects of your culture are lamentable. The only major differences are that Caldari culture is highly Darwinian and based around economics, whereas ours is more unitarian and based around religion. After that, our expectations for citizens are remarkably similar.

Really, that's why we've maintained such close ties for so long. We may not all know the specifics of each others' cultures, but it's not really difficult to understand each other. Capsuleers have more of a habit of nit-picking the little things; rather like children that can't be told to stop picking their scabs off and then wonder why the wounds don't heal.

The IGS is not your personal soapbox: it is a place of discussion and debate. EVERYTHING said here is a debate. If you didn't understand that when you came here, consider yourself educated.

That's only true if you mean by 'discussion and debate' something including 'polemics and demagoguery'. The IGS is certainly a soapbox, not of anyone in particular. The few voices of reason are usually squashed by those that have no interest in reasoned dialogue, but in pushing their own agenda.

That said, I think I will leave this thread to die down. It's the reasonable thing to do.

What you meant to say is "the IGS doesn't unquestioningly support Amarrian ideals in lockstep, which makes me deeply uncomfortable."

Whether or not that's particularly true, Andreus, you have to know you've just proved Nicoletta's point fairly succinctly.

No. Her original claim hinges on Amarrians being the "few voices of reason," rather than "[those interested] in pushing their own agenda." This is most assuredly not the case.
