EVE Client fails to launch (Possible short-term workaround!)

Since Rubicon's deployment I've been having an irritating issue when trying launching the client. Nothing happens when trying to launch the client from either the launcher or the exefile.exe in the bin folder (using DX9 & DX11 settings in the launcher, and via changing shortcut values for the exefile). Exefile.exe will show up in Task Manager under processes, and it will always be taking up about 187 mb of memory, however nothing shows up in the taskbar and I must end the program.

After a lot of trial and error, multiple attempts with repair.exe, adding and removing recent Windows updates, and even doing a clean install of my EVE client, I've narrowed down the issue to a fix that works for me. Hopefully it will help you too.

I've found that launching TeamSpeak 3 prior to trying to launch the EVE client results in a failed launch. Everything works fine, both DX9 and DX11, exefile and from the launcher, with TS3 closed. I can then open TS3 after the clients are open and everything is good. However, my TS3 chat overlay (ts3overlay) is not working within EVE. I then disabled the overlay and now I can still launch the EVE client after TS3 is open.

When force-closing exefile.exe from Task Manager, there is no popup or error message.

So the issue seems to be with DirectX overlays not playing nice with EVE. I haven't changed anything with TS3 before or after Rubicon except for disabling the overlay. I think that the rest of you who do not use TS3 but may have Nvidia Shadowplay enabled or any other similar DirectX overlay program, may be also getting these client launching issues. I would test Shadowplay out but for some reason every time I enable it right now (GeForce Experience 1.7.1.0) I get a BSOD and a reboot.

I'm going to say something is borked in Rubicon, since everything played nice before. I understand that this is likely an issue with 3rd party software not cooperating with EVE but can the Devs look into this? I get the feeling other people are affected by this from similar applications and they don't even know it.

In the meantime, is anybody else using a different chat overlay with TS3 that is working fine for them? Are you using TS3 overlay and getting any issues?

My system specs:

Windows 7 Home x64
Intel i7-3770k
2x EVGA GTX 260 Ti (running non-SLI right now)
8gb DDR3
320GB SSD (Windows & EVE installed here)
1 TB HDD

Thanks for your report, hopefully it will help others too.

It's hard for us to address issues with 3rd party overlays - we can certainly work with developers of those overlays if they approach us but our focus will always be on EVE by itself.
