As many of you know I have been on extended planetary duties (24 months). With my planetary responsibilities finally fulfilled I returned to active CVA duty some six weeks ago.

While I have been absent CVA has undergone some traumatic changes. Indeed, when I was last active in space CVA and its Holders were in complete control of Providence and the future looked extremely bright.

However, since then the alliance has lost and then regained Providence twice.

In many ways CVA is a different entity than when I left it, but in many ways it is the same...

Certainly the hard times have helped the alliance. Many of the less dedicated took the opportunity to leave but have in turn been replaced by capable pilots who are true to the original goals of Operation Deliverance - http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=121887&page=1#1

While I do not currently hold any office in the alliance (and nor do I want to) I would like to share some of my views and experiences of CVA since I returned.

LEADERSHIP

Equinox Deadalus is proving to be a first rate CEO. He is very different from Aralis in tone and stye - and can certainly be abrasive at times... but he has proved an exceptional motivator and administrator - launching several initiatives and reforms that have improved the way that the CVA operates. He has recruited good corporations and strengthened the alliance by doing so... His jovial style belies a core of steel...

PROVIDENCE - Sovereignty

Despite many setbacks over the past two years the CVA and its allies are well on the way to regaining complete Sovereignty control over the region. While it is apparent that we cannot stand toe-to-toe with the big 0.0 powerblocks when it comes to sov warfare CVA has learned that Providence is worthless to these powerblocks if they cannot install renters.

CVA has been highly successful at harassing 'renters' and driving them out - which in turn has reduced the incentive for the powerblocks to defend their systems. This, combined with the use of innovative - and quite frankly annoying - sov warfare tactics has allowed CVA and friends to gradually retake the bulk of the region.

While CVA is not the largest alliance its pilots are blessed with tenacity and an iron resolve not to give up - despite the imbalanced odds. These pilots have dedicated countless hours to 'boring' tasks (spending hours shooting SBUs/TCUs in stealth bombers fo example) to further the CVA's goals in the region.

NRDS - Welcoming law abiding capsuleers

The CVA and its allies continue to promote the NRDS (not red don't shoot) philosophy in Providence and we welcome law-abiding pilots to the region to the region. Even in the few weeks since I have returned, I have seen significant reductions in piratical activity in the region.

HOWEVER - while Povidence is safer for neutrals than most other regions of 0.0 - we cannot 100% guarantee anyone's security. We are weak at some times of the day when our reaction time is not as good as it should be - and sometimes there are simply too many other demands on our pilots. Therefore if you do venture to Providence it is wise to exercise some basic caution and responsibility for your own defence. Joining, monitoring and even contributing to the relevant intel channels can be invaluable in protecting both your (and other neutral's) assets.

While it is not 100% secure Providence does offer significant benefits to neutrals in as much as it provides access to the wealth of 0.0 without the requirement of paying rent. The infrastructure built up by CVA and Holders also means that station facilities are always close at hand and the market is also developing and offering opportunities for entreprenuers as we re-secure the space and population rises.

It is also worth pointing out that Providence also offers plenty of opportunities for pilots of a more 'militaristic' persuasion. Contrary to the widely held belief NRDS does not limit targets - indeed CVA's 'red' list is the longest in the galaxy. With pirates and terrorists constantly threatening our borders, and the neutrals that live here, Providence can also provide some of the best 'good fights' that you can find in the galaxy.

MILITARY PROWESS

If there is one thing the past year has taught us it is that we cannot stand toe to toe with the big 0.0 powerblocks - we simply lack the ships and numbers to do so. As such we often have to revert to harassment tactics when faced by large incursions.

That said CVA and allies are increasingly capable of taking on and defeating opportunistic pirates who think they can roam our space with impunity. In the R3-K7K area for example Codo Yagari (non-CVA) has been leading increasingly effective gangs that have significantly reduced red traffic through that strategic system.

Similarly, in the weeks since I have been back I, and my half sister Siobhan, have been working with dedicated CVA pilots in the 9UY area - destroying over 200 piratical pirates with minimal losses, again reducing the ability of reds to roam our space with impunity.

And it is not just in Providence that pirates should worry about CVA. One of my corp mates in Imperial Dreams regularly runs hot drop gangs that prove a most nasty surprise to unsuspecting pirates operating in Amarrian Empire low-sec space.

Despite the fact that many demean our combat abilities CVA's statistics are impressive with a kill/death ratio that surpasses many other 0.0 entities. We retain many older and experienced pilots who provide excellent advice (and constructive criticism) for newer pilots and are still willing to take on and train pilots who would be rejected by many supposedly more elite 0.0 organisations - all we want is a willingness to learn and loyalty to the Amarr Empire, NRDS and Providence.

DIPLOMACY

As always CVA, and our band of loyal NRDS allies, plough a straight and narrow furrow. Many opportunities present themselves but CVA remains focused on building Providence into a thriving Amarrian region. While that does mean that we 'handicap' ourselves (particularly by limiting ourselves to NRDS allies) it has in the long run meant that we do not overextend ourselves (with one notable exception).

As ever the CVA-Diplo channel is the place to go if you want to query your own status/relationship with the CVA - something I advise anyone travelling to Provi to do before they come here to avoid any 'accidents'. I would also like to point out that the demands of NRDS means our diplos are extremely overworked - so please do have patience and forgive any 'grumpiness'.

While we do welcome people to Providence there are some basic rules to be observed. Details of these are freely available. If you are not sure where then ask in CVA-Diplo.

Hardin, glad to see you around.

I hope you are right about CVA. Many things I saw there during my last tour of duty in Providence were not completely re-assuring.

You all remain in my prayers.
