Point on the map of Earth to a country where communism and socialism is working.

Bored @ work so I'll bite.

Communism to me is the inevitable form of government we will be forced to default to. It is a matter of technology, a cultural evolution of sorts. I could write 100 pages about this so I'll TLDR it:

As technology progresses the necessity for human workers decreases. Meanwhile, the population is increasing. At some point in time technology will likely advance to the point where we have a handful of career options and not much else. Every other sort of worker - from garbage man to accountant - may be replaced by machines and computers that can do the job more effectively. If you are not actively involved in maintaining, researching, building or designing these systems you may not have any use in society.

As of today, this technology does not exist, and so we can effectively run the societies we have today. In the future the advantages of capitalism that we see today - which make it a better choice than communism - will be a moot point, when large segments of the population are unemployed and thus will not benefit from a system of that design.

We see this today, as most "capitalist" nations are increasingly adopting socialist policies to help mediate unemployment and an increase in class division.

Both forms of government work IMO, its just a matter of the situation.

I think it is capitalism and communism that creates poverty and if as you say the future will bring mass unemployment then how will these people will be supported?

Socialism is what will support these people in my opinion and I think this is a good thing. If we become a society where the poor will be left to starve and die then herzog is correct the apocalypse is coming and I should get my beer and lie down and wait for the pain.

A socialist system can be abused I am not ignorant to that point, I also think a socialist system can be used correctly in order to help people retrain or further their education and then be in a position to contribute to the socialist system that helped them get back on their feet.

I'm going to say it. I strongly believe if Hub Zero is to succeed it will need a socialist approach. Things have become clear to me now and I can see why i've gotten in so many arguments with people and why I emo'ed back in 09 it is because I am a socialist and most other people are either capitalist or communist.

Maybe the cappies and commies minds are closed to my methods, and there really isn't anything I can do about populating Stain. Or maybe I need to work with other socialists to achieve this.

You'll get more rather inaccurate ideas of what socialism and capitalism is from Americans. America has not had real socialism nor real capitalism since around 1913. But over 100 years later everybody wants to blame one or the other for all the ills from not having a 5 bedroom house and 2 luxury cars to not being able to get laid or something.

What we have is crony capitalism (Wall Street) and crony socialism (Solyndra for example). If we had real socialism the people would have been bailed out in 2007 (Iceland for example) and if we had real capitalism the "Too big to fail" banks would have been left to go bankrupt (and that debt liquidated for pennies on the dollar).

Imagine if the people were bailed out AND the banks were left to fail for their misdeeds? Somebody pinch me.

As for Stain, the role of economics is understood well enough. Nobody is going to be forced into a Soviet style system for there would be no motivation to do anything (except consume Vodka of that I am already there without any matters of economics). But nobody is going to be living in a "company town" model where you can only buy from one source on a monster markup either. The "markup", if you can call it that, competes well with the cost of courier or freight contracts. In fact the only real damage to the market at HZ comes not from Karl Marx or the Rockefeller family but the proposed and planned changes to module reprocessing.

Hub-Zero is a concept which fundamentally operates around market hub(s). So the system used speaks for itself, people are free to buy/sell onto the market as they wish. The only thing compulsory is that members do not shoot at neutral or friendly targets.

If pilots operating in the area wish to setup more 'socialist' activities, then that would also be encouraged, as choosing to pool resources and operate more effectively together is what separates the intelligent from the thoughtless.

As we speak, Dracvlad is stocking the market hub in 6Y-OTW as mentioned, and I am setting up the logistics so we can provide cheap ships and modules for anyone operating in the area with us.

Setting up Hub-Zero is a long term plan, and we have a very good group of people who are committed to this, and things are progressing very well. This is a great chance to be at the start of something which is rapidly growing into something which will be very big in the future to come. Just drop by channel "Hub-Zero", we have plenty of people who will be there to answer your questions and help you get setup to operate in Stain.

In the spirit of Dracvlad and Aaron's battle reports, I have another for today.

Hub-Zero is steadily progressing, and evidence of this was apparent last night.

There were a couple of us. Ceaselessly roving the area, and keeping vigilance over our protected systems as we routinely do. Local channel notified us of three unidentified capsuleers entering the 0G system. Upon further inspection these three capsuleers where identified as Coven.

Generally we leave Coven alone, as they do not seem interested in our area of Stain and therefore rarely attack us, and are usually simply passing through or scanning for signatures. This time though I noticed a different pattern of behaviour, so I ordered my surveillance pilot to survey the area and feedback what they where up to.

- - -

The surveillance pilots directional scan churned back a string of data revealing a Gila. As the directional scan whirred away the precise location of the Gila became apparent, Asteroid Belt I Planet VII. I added two and two together and calculated this was an asteroid belt clearance configuration, and would pose no immediate threat to us. Wanting to be ready for any situation that may arise though, I ordered a small skirmish fleet to quickly assemble and take up position in the station.

The communication feed from the surveillance ship buzzed as the pilot spoke, 'large carrier spawn identified in the belt commander'.

Now we knew why they had been here for longer than usual, a carrier spawn.. We could use that to build the fleet of cruisers which we had the plans for.

With the prospect of a glistening fleet of resplendent combat cruisers treasured in the wrecks of those Sansha haulers, I quickly ordered the small skirmish unit which we had assembled to undock from the station and align towards the asteroid belt.

- - -

We landed at 0km on the belt just as a Coven Kryos was leaving, "Dam, it was too quick for us to get a point commander".

Wrecks were strewn littering the belt like a battlefield after a bloody slaughter. "Assess the carrier wrecks" I ordered. They were all still almost full of ore, and a very large haul of ore at that. Tritanium, Pyerite, and Mexallon, with an estimated isk value was over 500mil.

"We need to secure this hauler spawn ASAP" I declared over the fleet communication channel. Teverine in his blackbird quickly responded, "I have a Tayra in the station". "Very good, fit it for maximum capacity, and lets haul in as much as we can before these guys bring backup" I replied. Blade added, "I have a combat Prophecy in station if we need something a little more heavy", "Very good, we will indeed be needing that" I replied.

Our scout noticed the Coven Kryos pilot undock in an anathema. "They will have eyes on us, stay sharp, and be ready to engage" I stated.

- - -

Splinter, identified the most valuable minerals, and Teverine's Tayra hastily went back and forth, scooping the most valuable minerals first as we waited in anticipation. Minutes past, and the Tayra dutifully went back and forth delivering the minerals to the safety of the station. As we had anticipated, it was after around five minutes that the previous calm was abruptly shattered. "Local count is spiking commander"

Our fleet composition ran through in my mind. Caracal, Wolf, Prophecy, and Vexor, not a fleet to be sneezed at, although enemy fleet is unknown, we could be up against anything. Then the thought of the glistening tritanium shards entered my mind pushing aside any concerns for our enemy. "We will attempt to defend the remaining minerals, prepare to engage at your optimal range" I replied.

- - -

The enemy malediction landed on top of the prophecy. "Primary the malediction" I commanded. The fleet unleashed it's fury on the lone malediction as the rest of the enemy appeared. They had overwhelming force as expected, multiple force recons, heavy cruisers, and assault frigates. "Stay on this malediction" I commanded. The wolf's autocannons ripped through the maledictions armour as its hull burst into flames.

The enemy's force was overwhelming, we had killed the enemy tackler, if we continue with the fight we will likely lose the entire fleet. "Disengage to a nearby celestial" I commanded reluctantly.

The fleet engaged warp. Wolf, Caracal, and Vexor all left in a flash of light, but the Prophecy was stuck. "What is your status Splinter". "Taking heavy damage, and warp drive disabled" he replied. I'm not leaving anyone behind I bitterly thought to myself. "Fleet, re align back to the asteroid belt" I commanded.

- - -

"Are any of them going down, and who has you pointed Splinter". "Negative, multiple points on me" he replied. I ran through the ships which the enemy had in my mind, and then remembered the remaining tritanium left in the carrier wrecks. There was nothing we could do, if this was another day we would have had ten plus pilots ready to engage, but they got us at the time when things where quiet. "We have 200mil of minerals" I stated. "This will be used to replace the Prophecy and build multiple cruisers for the next engagement" everyone happily agreed, cheered by the spoils we had looted and the killing of the enemy malediction.

- - -

We won the isk war, and Coven where lucky they had southern federation backing them up, along with striking us at a quiet time. If this had happened half an hour later, then this would have been a different story. As what happened half an hour later, is another long and interesting story, which is likely too much of a wall of text for all but the most eager.
