Skeln Thargensen,

that's how some peple can feel big and tough by talking smakc or insulting people on the internet. I'd say pretty much just blow them off and let them cry themselves to sleep every night. If you have to act tough through a computer, you have much bigger issues to deal with.

+1 to Battlestar Galactica being another representation of how we play this game.

Anyone could be the next traitor.

Babylon 5 is not on my Netflix anymore or I would be watching it right now.

Just wondering if I can get a dev to confirm what me and my brother have observed.

even the myrmadon looks like a minbari Battle Crusier.

the narn are totally the minmatar

the Cintauri are the Ammar

Humans are the Caldari and Minbari are Galente.

Even the Idea for Yuli and concord sound like the Babylon Project for Galatic peace.

anyone up for a JOvian Sunrise?

CCP have stated that their stronest influences from pre existing Sci fi are films like Blade Runner and The Empire Strikes back etc. They seem to like harsh, dystopian sci fi as a rule. Gritty stuff, whilst B5 certainly is gritty and harsh it's never been mentioned as a direct influence on eve. Great show though, I loved it, despite the fact that it shamelessly adapted the plot of the lord of the rings to a sci fi universe.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

I can confirm that many of us early developers were Babylon 5 fans. But I think the influence is fairly minimal, the only thing I can say for certain was an influence was the relationship between Minmatar and Amarr, which is similar to Narn and Centauri.

There are quite a few of those loose relations in EVE. Bonus points for the one who can name the sci-fi series that inspired the name of our London Server (Tranquility) Twisted

Tranquility: Independent bitek habitat germinated by Crown Prince of Kulu, Michael Saldana? From Peter F. Hamiltons "Night's Dawn Trilogy"

This is correct. It is actually also based on the name of one of the alien ships in the Gap Cycle. The Gap Cycle is also the inspiration for a well known drug in the EVE-verse. Bonus bonus point if someone knows which Smile

So you're openly admitting that you know what combat drones should be like? :D

This explains the ship designs too. Some of them anyway, the new hulls are much better "wink SOE"

If one of you can fit a Shadow battlecrab into some arse end of the universe as a lols easter egg, I will quite happily sell the soul of my first born to CCP....or a shattered world that seems to have been myteriously torn apart from the inside out, or...or....

Yeah, it's not going to happen, but the idea makes me smile.

But it did give us the Severed Dreams battle, which I still hold up as the single best Space Battle to date on the small screen, even after all these years. The Churchill ramming the Clarke destroyer still gives me goosebumps due to the last exchange between the two captains. That aside it was a breath of fresh air away from Trek's holier than thou attitude and technobable, and used that dreaded word - continuity. It also pretty much ruined every major tv sci-fi series by making me expect plots to make sense and people not to forget what happened two episodes back.

The despair caused by badly written and plotted tv was eventually broken by Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad.

The parallels between B5 and Mass Effect also blows away any that might exist in Eve. The idea of the Earth Minbar warthat occurred 10 years ago which resulted in the Babylon Project really reminds me of the Turian conflict and the Citadel and the Council. The two ancient sleeping races that are way more powerful than the younger races. Of course the ubiquitous jump gates were formed by an ancient race and create such a wallop when destroyed they can kill a Shadow ship. Heck, the collectors even look like Shadows.

Not saying that Mass Effect is ripping off B5 (I love both) just that there is definitely more similarities there.

The dominix was inspired by footwear.

Wrong. The Dominix clearly has more humble origins.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

B5 had no influence on me personally what-so-ever. Roll

Just remember:

We live for the One,
We die for the One.
