this is a well established program by CCP, having sent donations to Japan, Pakistan and Haiti.

There is currently 76b in a fund (sitting since 2011) waiting for the next drive to be converted.

IF you bothered to read, you would see that people are donating both ingame and out of game.... I for one know I can donate far more via PLEX than I can via RL, and as I said in the other thread, I am far from the only one.

It is a real world situation, and the $1900 already set aside will help real people. They do not care about the source of money, any more than a charity cares about the source. Not everyone can match what they would be able to give via PLEX with RL donations, not everyone can give blood, not everyone can fly out to the Philippines to assist in the aid effort.

Any charity donation is done during your leisure time, unless you work for a charity.

Have you asked anyone affected what they think? Have you asked any of the charities?
Do you think they also turn down donations gained through 24 hour silences, fancy dress races, sitting in a bath of beans for a day, or a 24 hour gaming session, because these are also "self absorbed for the benefit of patting yourself on the back".

This must have something to do with Blink, because it seems it's getting ignored :(

I don't have a lot of isk these days, but I can pledge some of it to this cause - I've had co-workers there.

You seem to be under the misunderstanding that the donation is made in ISK. It is not for obvious reasons. For each PLEX handed in CCP gives 14 dollars to an accredited charity. Hence every PLEX handed in is the direct equivalent of a 14 dollar donation.

As for going to help yourselves, frankly that is not really a possibility for most players in this game. The vast majority of eve players are based in the western hemisphere, where most jobs are long term commitments with relatively fixed work hours.

It's nice to see that despite the fact you're all a big pack of meanies in game, there's a really positive vibe when it comes to programs such as PLEX for GOOD.

We're well aware of the horrible situation in the Philippines right now, and everyone who has been affected has our most sincere sympathies.

The Community Team are currently discussing potential options for what we may be able to do to harness the good will of the EVE Community, and are liaising with other departments at CCP to look into the best option.

While we can't promise anything at this stage, we're looking at the situation to see what, if anything, we can do to allow EVE Players to assist.

Apologies for the delay with regards to responding to this, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through in terms of conforming with legality before we can proceed with any form of donations. Smile

Now that there's actually been an official response to this, consider me pledged if anything goes ahead, but someone may need to send me a mail or something to remind me if and when something actually gets set up because lately I'm frequently preoccupied with some heavy real-life stuff of my own, and I may forget.

No, thank you for your reply : )

The delays are understandable. I know how difficult charity work can be to organise, especially when cash donations are involved, and I greatly admire and respect CCP for stepping up to this task.

It is good to see that the balls are rolling at least : )

Ahh to be honest I am not so sure myself, lol. I always donate anonymously (I am no longer a UK taxpayer, and you cannot get a tax rebate for overseas donation in Thailand as far as I know), and the name just occurred to me while I was doing so, I don't recall there was actually any reasons beyond this.

Bearing in mind the starvation/cholera/etc starts now, not later.

Sooner the better.

TIL posting a duplicate thread and bumping it gets you a dev reply and gets the original thread locked. Never mind that that thread was first, or that that thread was started by people running a special fund for years. No this one has a dev reply, so it must be more important. Way to treat people who have been setting aside a portion of their ISK for years for rl disasters like this.

Cross posted from the other thread because Im ******* lazy and stuff

Three things:
First let me say Im all for CCP re-instating a plex for relief fund.
Second, by doing this, CCP and you promote EVE via charity and can help bring people into the game.
Third, to the people saying "send so and so a check. Or donate blood or whatever." For some of us, that isnt an option. Im pretty ******* poor IRL, but I have a decent amount of ISK in game I could buy plexes and donate with to help out. I cant donate blood due to a medical condition that makes my blood not replenish quick enough. Im not the only person here unable to do these things

Yeah, let's cause a TON of people to be forced to unsub by driving PLEX price through the roof. If you want to donate donate YOUR money, not MINE by PROXY. But that's not what it's about, is it?

The real drivers behind this idea are people with PLEX stacks, and PLEX traders hoping to profit on higher prices. It's nothing more.

There are always half a dozen ways to do something, charity is no exception. Having some options doesn't make another option "bad"

In other words, don't feel like you have to explain your motivation for choosing a certain method of charitable donation, that's always your call.

What an insightful take! Looks like you're all set and ready to take advantage of the video game market manipulation being undertaken by the evil and scheming victims of a typhoon.
