This has been a personal pet-peeve of mine for quite many years. I have suggested on a few occasions to change this, however this requires some changes to how the server/client communication happens and that is some major work that takes a lot of time and effort to do.

So as much as I wanted (and many more) to make this happen it just did wasn't suitable, but you never know if that will change!

Instead of major subsystems re-writes; cant you just add a 'Swap Character' button that automatically quits and restarts the client again - using the same login / password token used previously.

Sure its not sexy as a turn key solution complete with air condition waiting room for your characters to chilax in but it solves 80% of the issue hate..

Also great Dev Blog.

My biggest problem with your new "simpler" screen is this. YOU have decided exactly what small bit of info the players wished to know...and how to prioritize that info.

My biggest problem with that is....i don't care 'how many' skills i have completed since my last log-in....i DO want to know how many SP i have. It's not like we have the option of looking at the skills that are so proudly displayed in the log-in screen.

Please remove this useless feature...as it currently stands, if i've completed ANY skills since my last log-in, it no longer displays my current SP, but proudly shows the number of skills i've completed. Next. To. Useless. And you guys seriously play this game?

With your specific thing of preferring SP of Skills finished, I disagree, I don't care how much SP I have, but if a skill has finished I might mean that I have finished a pre-req for another skill and that I should sign into that Character to check if I can inject a new skill.

All good, but I don't like new button for terminate character.
New button for terminate character screen looks like button in windows for close program screen , it may confuse people. If only not 10 hour delay for terminate characters YOU CCP will have big problems after patch Twisted

Looks good, works good.

An option to lock the location would be nice becouse it goes by past log in time I have logged in the same character a couple times when trying to switch.

With news now only on the launcher, a Neocom short cut to either the current news using the browser or a link out side the news scroll to the last weeks "This week in EVE" Forum post would make it easier for those that do not go in the CC or the forums to find this info.

.... There was News on the old character screen???? Logs into Eve.... SO there was, I've never paused long enough on the Character selection screen to let that load before.

Cool. Now if you can just do away with the outmoded "Accounts" and replace them with blocks of character slots so we don't have to have a bazillion different log in details, that would be round this off nicely.

13 years and counting. Eve Defence Force is recruiting.

I read this is a "goal oriented" change.

What if the goal is wrong?

I mean, do we care to have some nicer looking, somewhat better streamlined buttons, when what we need since a decade is simply a button to swap characters without leaving the game?

Wouldn't it be anyway much quicker to switch characters in game than re-loading the client, despite you make that quicker?

Also, about the devblog call about aesthetics, immersion etc.: which goal did you achieve by brutally taking away one of the most beloved start up features, that is a beautiful music and awesome log in animated scene?

THOSE things, and not 3 buttons, defined EvE since the first glance.

So, please re-evaluate your goals on the light of what players need and liked, not just to speed up a couple of clicks.

Yup. I don't care about a fancy login screen. But I do care about restarting the game everytime I just wanna check prices in Jita. Or relog Cyno toonies. Or just wanna relog for reloggings sake.

I've been asking for this for years. Others even longer, time to get that work done finally.

Edit: But yeah, the login screen looks cool :P

Slow down please, what where your goals and why did you think removing the old log in screen would be a step closer to them? Also I don't see how the new screen is more aesthetically pleasing or more useful than the last, except for the PLEX expiration timer. But you could have put that anywhere. Not sure if I like...

Awesome!

So-- when will we be able to go back to the character selection screen from in-game? ;)

this!

No. We would love to be able to do that, but that is not at all a "character selection screen" issue.
Once a connection has been made, both the server code and client code make a lot of assumptions that the characterID will not change, and it's very far from trivial to change that (otherwise we probably would have done that a long time ago)

Umm, so why if we bypass that launcher do-hicky do we have the ability to log off and return to the character selection screen then?

This IS something you did a long time ago, the introduction of the launcher BROKE this ability.

I like it very much. Smile

But why only the remaining days for PLEX, ETC and trial acounts will be displayed. It would be very nice if the remaining days to the next recurring payment with e.g. credit card will be displayed, too.

I find it would be more understandable if you change the simple X to a skull icon for deleting a character.

Finally I would be happy about if also new notifications would be displayed not only new mails.

When the left charater is selected per default for entering with Enter maybe it should be highlighted per default.

EDIT:
I think it would be great if there is an confirmation question when you drag and drop an redeeming item on a charakter.
Addidional the possibility of splitting stacks.

Thank you

It does show both. If there is a completed skill since last log-in then it will display that. If there is no change, i.e. no completed skills, then it will show the total SP.

We did consider having recurring subscription as a timer as well, but as it is not showing "expiry" but rather "time until renewal" we decided to not include it as it wouldn't fit thematically.

We opted for not splitting stacks for now, for simplicity sakes as we determined that most players do not need to split stacks. But we have it on our radar.

Very nice overall, however, I think the mail icon with the count somewhere on the portrait would be much more visible. It seems like there will be a lot of unnecessary scanning involved to see if any characters have unread mail.
Either way, nice work.

I tend to agree with this. Will bring it up with the team. We are very close to the release however so it might have to wait.

No one is prohibiting ccp from doing usefull changes except of ccp itself. Three character slots was viable in previous decade. Too bad eve isnt evolving like other games which does not limiting player experience in such way. Touching character screen subject is good, but proposed changes are just not what it should be (its like changing hubcaps on car with broken engine).

Looks like ccp is putting all money eve earns, into dust (which is garbage anyway) and this just cant end well. Thats why we wont see expansions with new content like wormholes, just endless rebalance of old ships, trials, warp and jump animation. Thoose changes are easy and not time consuming.

Lets face it - you managed to create single good product, and thats all. Not expanding eve like u did in past will result in definitive drop of subscribers. Thoose people wont go to dust since dust isnt a pc game (and in matter of console games, dust is alot worse than other titles players like alot more).
