Imagine all of the ice disappeared throughout all of high sec. Perhaps only a particular kind to start, but more varieties would continue to vanish until players start trying to solve the mystery. A news release comes out (a CCP live event- series of events) and from there we get some sort of storyline mission that requires a lot of players to join together to complete a variety of missions that develop over time to solve the mystery. Eventually... a few days or a month (depending on player involvement) the mystery is solved and the Ice returns. It may require a bunch of miners to join in and help in some way to achieve the group goal of solving the mystery.

That is the very opposite of a sandbox activity. May as well call it a quest and sell it for $15.

The above example, which I think would be pretty cool, could bring different players together (miners, missioners, gankers- who wish to stop the mission from succeeding, etc.) It would break up the monotony if ice mining, offer mission runners a new and exciting story- that requires players to work together (or against each other) and just generally be a fun thing for lots of people to do, together, in this great multiplayer game we share.

I hope that helps. I welcome your detailed and thoughtful questions.

Question -- When are you leaving to go play Star Wars the Old Republic? What's next; companions?

The group goal you mention would not be to solve the mystery but to end the irritation of having no fuc^ing ice.

The cynic in me questions your motivation. Particularly when you mention gankers and their desire to breakup this little community quest. This is more about greater visibility for your James toon then it is for anything 'community' related.

Forget all the snark and lip gloss comments I wrote. Failure to understand what a sandbox is disqualifies you.

I disagree. Something like this would force certain groups of players experience more of Eve and interact. Furthermore, it could introduce all sorts of emergent gameplay in response, especially if others can join in on the other side.

But this is also why, at the core, I am running on a set of basic ideas with the understanding that I am actively soliciting ideas and encouraging the community to debate them. If you think that I have some agenda for certain players, you are mistaken.

The only agenda is to protect and enhance the sandbox and to encourage more transparency and open discussion.

If you have specific points and questions to raise, in some level of detail, please do.

Regarding the next player immediately above this post, I am not James 315. Try to imagine Eve as it is today but better. I encourage you to contribute ideas and concerns. I ask that you get past the "no ice" issue and see the possibilities to make your game more fun. Also, as previously mentioned many times, it is but one idea, and I am very open to constructive criticism. Also, I forget to mention that I would support the mission rewards to be fair enough to compensate for the reduction of Ice temporarily. It would also be an interesting way to seed new and limited items into the game.

Thanks.

I wouldn't. His antics in his "bonus room" have gotten creepy in a way that even goons find appalling. For that reason, he sure as hell won't be appearing on the official CFC ballot list. Whatever support he can dredge up here is what he'll get.

As I will address in more detail soon, there has been an odd campaign lately to silence our voices. I am not standing down, and I will not let the status quo stand. Together, we can change things and make Eve better for everyone.

You want to turn EvE into Scooby Doo.

As most of your actions are something like : i win - the rest can loose loose, i scam - the rest can loose I don't care, i ask for money - the rest can loose ... and most of them are regarded to miners (maybe you have a miner fetish) , is very hard to believe that you can do something constructive for a COMMUNITY .
There is too much I and no WE .
By your ideas and your gameplay, i believe Counter Strike suits you better ... you can even try to go on their CSM if they have one .

What Scammers, and gankers don't deserve representation in the CSM? It is a EVE play style and one that people do play, so they too should be represented, you have your Carebear Reps let those who play this way have a voice too.

X, Mail me some time tell me how to vote. Also maybe we need to fire up a system by system campaign starting in the gateway systems from Noobs.

This response reveals more of what you want than your response to me. The second sentence is a prime example of why people shouldn't support you for CSM.

"Something like this would force certain groups of player to experience more of Eve and interact."

While I believe that players should step outside their comfort zones, and that they absolutely need to interact with others in order to truly experience EvE, they should never be forced to do so. Furthermore, a player's ability to play the game should never hinge upon the benevolence(or lack thereof) of other players. Your example would force miners to either stop being miners or to hope that players would actually do the necessary missions in order for the ice to reappear. Also, it would allow Null Sec groups to have a complete monopoly on ice and the products made from it. Now, I understand that it is a very rough idea, but the sentiment behind it appears to be one of **** the miners. The final sentence of the second paragraph in your original response to me says that "it may require a bunch of miners to join in," which is, as I said, a major issue, since you would be creating a situation where any player that has made the concious decision to mine would be unable to do so. I don't imagine the missions would require mining lasers, and so those miners would be required to switch ships and professions if they have the requisite skills trained, or, if they do not have the skills trained, to stop playing until they do.

Now, I apologize for focusing so heavily on a clearly rough idea, but I feel that it illustrates quite clearly the kind of content you imagine for EvE. The fact is that there are many people that like the industry side of New Eden. I am one of those players. At the same time, I am looking forward to the PvP side of EvE. These things are not mutually exclusive, but the key to getting players to step outside their comfort zone is to not force it upon them. Attempting to do so will cause them to push back just as hard as you are trying to push them. If you want people to only PvP, then why not just remove mining and have CCP seed minerals into the market? They should remove PI as well then and do away with industry as a whole, instead just seeding ships into the game by having them drop as random loot off player wrecks.

"Encouraged" would have been a better word choice. There would remain other mining options during such an activity, such as other ice varieties and ore. When I have more time later this evening, I will revisit this post and expand on it.

I appreciate that you are taking an active role in discussing issues.

I don't think this forum is an appropriate place to link my extensive client photograph collection. Perhaps we can arrange to have samples of them posted on some fansite. The player you are referencing had fun, and I'm sure he will come forward to talk about it soon. Many of my bonus round clients, whether they win or lose, have a good time. Many also, even if they lose, tell me later than they have had their eyes opened to the possibilities within the sandbox and thank me for it.

For anyone that wishes me to run a boring, dry campaign, I'm sorry but there will be lots of fun and excitement.

This will be a CSM campaign like no other.
