Insurance would be the greatest deal in any universe anywhere if it reimbursed your modules as well as your ship. Too good to be true so it isn't. So here's the thing with insurance and how I use it personally. Insurance that does not pay out within 12 weeks is wasted cash. Things like my missioning ships which I haven't lost in 5 years are never insured.

Only insure things you expect to lose at some point, if you buy like 10 cruisers or something determined to pvp in them until they explode go ahead and insure those every time you need to get into the next one. That being said I only ever buy basic level insurance. Treat insurance as if it is literally tacked onto the price tag of your ship and you'll notice that basic provides by far the biggest benefit for the money put into it. I don't insure anything below a cruiser either as the cost of the hulls for frigates and destroyers is not worth worrying about at all.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.
