Why do you think that CCP didn't expect that players would join the "defense" after specifically calling for players to join the defenders?

Every other CCP sponsored event event period has presented an opportunity for the wonderful interactions that arise when other people try to disrupt the event. That's the fun of EVE.

If there was a 4 page long forum every time a goon spy was in a non-goon fleet I'm pretty sure CCP would need to dedicate one of their 4 supernodes just to the forums. I'm not saying discussion is bad but really why did this one . . . of all instances of this out there create a 4 page discussion?

Also if Satan plays Eve he almost certainly mines AFK or autopilots around in a blinged out missioning ship. It's all about tempting others to do evil.

I'm a bad person I suppose, but I find people complaining bitterly about 20+ jumps... Tidi... and a gate camp waiting at the end of it... and wailing that they are going to cancel subs because of it to be hilarious.
