My gank Brutix is called Spanish Inquisition.

Nice score with that Brutix.

My ships are usually named in reference to their shape, a notable feature, their function, or some combination, such as a Tengu named "UglyLegoMonster".

Same way I name everything else: Type random words at the keyboard and hit enter. Recently they've mostly been named after Mexican food, because hell yes enchiladas.

As I am in school to become an RN, I name all of my ships after communicable diseases (or in the case of my Scimi, after drugs that help diseases). Each fit gets its own name (hence why my 3 cane fits are named Ebola, Tetanus, and Cholera).

Its getting harder now, since I have about 15 active fits, and I want names people will recognize (who here knows what "Babeosis" is?).

Let's be a little bit curious: How do you name your ships and why?

I personally like it to use the names of semi-precious stones with a little modification. For example i name all my drakes "Saphiros". At the end i put a Roman numeral and rise it, if i lost my previous one or buy another Drake. Thus it resembles to for example " Saphiros IV "

Whatever strikes my fancy really, from mythology, s-f, etc., etc.. What I particularly like doing is numbering them with Latin numbers, incrementing as I lose them, so I have, e.g.:

Drone Queen IV
Sanguinary IX (lost a lot of Myrms in fail PvP lol)
Ragamuffin II
Kerux III
Oenone III

I named my Rorq "Nostromo" and my Thanny "Sulaco" (I've always loved the Alien movies and didn't have to think very hard what I wanted to name my biggest ship!)

My Hound is "K9P"

My Domi is "Poop Shoot"

My CNR is "Herp" while my alt's Noctis is called "Derp"

So yeah, completely random.

I add a roman numeral to a ship type to know how many times I have gotten it blown up.

and my Noctis is named "Junkyard Dog" after the Junkyard ship in Homeworld.

I've named my ships mainly after their form or function.

Claw: Cheetah on Hormones, it's fast
Viator: Obvious Target, obvious target is obvious
Machariel: Big assed ship, well it is, isn't it

Unless its a joke name (IE Diemosts called HMS Dildozer etc) Latin stuff for Amarrian ships, titan names from WH40K sound cool for Amarrian ships IMO. Cool SciFi ship names or real ships for everything else usually.

I use Latin words because they have deep meaning when used well, and they **** people off who don't know latin.

Exitus Acta Probat (The Ends Justify the Means)

Donec Vindicta (Final Vengeance)

Ignis Spiritus (Spirit of Fire)

And other cool things.

The pie is a tautology

Dire Straits songs, mainly.
If i've got nothing appropriate (you can't name something with seven guns Six Bladed Knife!) i resort to Pink Floyd.

Frigates are always "kittens", with names like Bonzai Kitten, Faster Pussycat, Thundercat etc.
Cruisers have no fixed pattern yet .
Battlecruisers are named after AC/DC Songs, like: Whole Lotta Rosie, Hell's Bells etc.
I was going to use Metallica Songs for the Battleships, but I found that the names were often too powerful for mere battleships- like, "Harvester of Sorrow" has to be at least a dreadnought, not a lousy little geddon.....

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Depends on the Ship & Character

Gallente & Minmatar are either named after Westerns,
Ishtar – HighPlainsDrifter.
Ishkur- AdiosGringo
Or the Iain Banks method like:
Proteus – TransientPhenomenon.
Jaguar- SoMuchForSubtlety.

Amarr ships all named after Deep Purple albums or tracks:
Omen- YouFoolNoOne.
Retribution- Fireball
