Which names are you choosing for your ships and why?

I name them rather randomly, whatever comes to mind that seems to fit.

The only one whose name has a purpose is my Inquisitor for salvaging and looting those who die on station. Its the Salvage Reclaimer.

I got bored a few years back and decided (no idea why) that all my shipnames had to end in "ion"; they all had to be unique (no second use) and they all had to be valid OED words.

Still at it after 3+ years but I have to say its getting more challenging by the day Lol

A "license plate" and "name" system.

Examples are:

Hulk: HK-3007-A "Roath"

Noctis: NS-3116-A "Lienpher"

Comet: NC-7021-B "Sionnach"

Tengu: TU-5343-A "Eolas"

and so on and so forth.

I go with names from Freespace 2, that game has a helluva lot of good ship names, just check this out

Cato, Outrage, Repulse, Vanguard, Iceni, Danton, Pax, Liberty

good solid ship names

I had an Apoc that i called "Hello and Welcome" until a girl in my corp told me to call it "Banana ***" and to be honest it fits the ship perfectly

Some exceptions, some ships "lolpvp" or "lolbait" or "lolsausage"

I, Lord Vaari, earl of Sosan VII, founder and despot of the Imperal Pharmacy, self proclaimed prophet, golden mountain, worlds most beloved hero, carrier of the heaven's light, speaker of unquestioned truth, teacher of faith will usualy give name which have two part.

If ship is owned by my corporation, it has IPS (Imperial Pharmacy Ship) on first of its name. Then it has usually name which is biblical, or inspires its captain to perform one's duty well, and it is also suited for the ship. Very often, if you only know the name, you can tell what kind of ship it is. IPS Cargoliner, IPS Ironworks, IPS Oppressor, IPS Furious

If ship is owned by me, it usually, but not always have two carefully chosen names, which are ofter biblical, or atleast heroic and also fit for the ship class.

Archon: Divine Oppressor
Anathema: Vigilante Eternas
Absolution: Resolution of Hector
Paladin: Edict of War
Crusader: Heathen's End

I always pick names that make my Alliance members laugh.

"Hand Solo"

My Iteron V is "Space Dildo"

My Gas Harvester is "Sir Farty Pants"

I was let out of an ambush/point because they thought my ship name was hilarious.

My favorite for my salvagers is Sandford and Son.

My warp stabbed haulers I call Zippp.

My PVE assult frigs I call Blitzer.

Other then that the names come to me in a moment of brilliance just before I undock.

Mostly names related in some way to the ship, and 'related' may not always mean 'directly' (i.e. in-jokes /w old friends).

Shuttles - Dolphon, Eagle, Vader, etc
Various Amarr ships - Thrint Alpha/Beta/Gamma/etc (though the mining frig I started calling 'Gonzo')
Rupture - Teldin Moore
Various mining ships - Clementine
Industrials - Traffic (I find this particularly fitting)

My Thrashers I started calling Laumer, cannot remember why now...
