As a 2007 char who has been training diligently since, I can fly a lot of things. I've pew-pewed in just about everything. Despite my massive ship arsenal worth more than 3 billion isk, it is actually the little AFs that I enjoy flying the most. They have excellent mobility, they are frequently understimated when trying to entice a fight (and therefore means getting one), and have excellent combat potential.

I can tell you that AFs are much meaner than they look, its just people don't know how to use them. Our AF heavy setup even did ok in the alliance tournament as well, which is an entirely different format than normal "TQ" play.

Since I have everything and can fly everything, no matter what gets nerfed or buffed I'll be penalized or benefited as equally as anything else in Eve, so it doesn't matter to me.

Seriously though, don't underestimate an AF gang.

Excuse me but I have soloed 4 AFs at once without a sweat in my BC, which costs as much as one AF. Yes of course AFs are fun to play but they certainly lack something. CCP has statistics of what ships is flown in percentages and AF and EAF are at the bottom. A couple people enjoying flying AFs doesn't change the fact that they are either super expensive for they have, or they have very little for the money they cost.

We had a kick-ass frigate already. It was called the Dramiel. It died all the time. People still cried about it. CCP nerfed the living **** out of it (they had 5 nerfs to choose from and in typical CCP fashion they chose ALL of them.) Less shinies blowing up means less fun.

As for assault frigates, there needs to be a clear consensus on what role they need to fill that destroyers don't fill and a clear consensus on whether they're supposed to be weaker or stronger than pirate faction frigates. Until you do those two things, it's pointless to talk about which bonuses they should have.

Bump for this. Any chance of at least an UPDATE on when the AF will get their 4th bonus or something about the direction those bonuses/roles will be going so the community can provide feedback?

Dramiel had by far the best cost/benefit ratio available .. was the only hull that exceeded the ratio represented by the infinitely broken SC's for Goddess sake .. if you think it was nerfed too harshly then you should either have participated in the pre-nerf debates ("GBTWoW" and "It's fine, leave it alone" are not actual arguments in case you wondered) or you can make your case before the audience in an appropriate thread.

There is no need for the second consensus as Pirate frigates were designed to equal and/or exceed the parameters of T2 frigates.
As for AF vs Destroyer, think they are in a pretty good place in relation to each other after the Destroyer buff .. advantage destroyer in damage department with all other aspects going to the AF's .. in other words: as it should be.

The last two sentences are part of the reason why combat buffing AF's may have unintended side-effects, the light class is awfully cramped as it is power-wise and a medium-large boost to any ship will require a lot of balancing to avoid obsoleting a bunch of ships (they over-buffed Destroyers, T1 frigates are not worth it now in my opinion).

As others have said, Assault Frigs need a distinct and thought out role, followed by the necessary tweaks to allow them to carry out that role, rather than just throwing a random 4th bonus at the hull and leaving it for another 5 years. 'Necessary tweaks' might even mean nerfing other ships which currently overshadow the AFs (such as some of the interceptors and faction frigs), so that each frigate class has a reason to exist.

The frigate range needs a lot of re-writing anyway - even before the destroyers were improved there was no reason to fly any T1 frig in combat other than a rifter (or possibly a griffin), little reason to fly any non-Minmatar AF, or EA frigs, or half of the interceptors.

The whole range is a broken mess.

buffing AF's? Gees, why not just make frigates the one and only ship class? What about the useless medium and large combat ship classes?

Apart from black-ops and maybe some of the tier 1 BCs, which classes do you mean? Cruisers, HACs, Recons, T3s, Command Ships, Logistics, Battlecruisers, Battleships and Marauders are all heavily used ships classes.

Or is this going to be some "My 6x meta-2 425mm fitted Rokh couldn't hit a Claw which was orbiting me at 5000m therefore battleships are useless" thing?

"Just remember later that I warned against any change to jump ranges or fatigue. You earned whats coming."
