Destructible Jump gates

A player should always be able to get in and out of a system, regardless of who has ownership of the jump gate and I'm not suggesting to change that.

I took a stab at it before but lets try again...

1. Nullsec and lowsec gates to be destructible
2. When a gate is destroyed it turns into a gate wreck
- Gates have renforcement modes
- Though in appearance it may look dysfunctional, in any state it can allow a ship to jump through it
3. One may anchor a claiming unit near the gate for the alliance
- does not require soverignty to anchor
4. The claiming unit turns into an egg that must be filled with particular minerals
5. At downtime the the gate wreck disappears and turns into the player owned gate model
6. The gate records in a log the players that use it to jump in and leave the system
- gate status can be looked up in game
- gate records (in/out) can be pulled from an alliance api for the past 24 hrs.
- With some excel magic or via other program, you could use that data to tell you who is in a system while they are logged in or not without scouting

Realtime scouts would still be preferable but there would be an alternative it you don't mind the hour wait for all systems under your influence (not necessarily your sovereign control)

I have a feeling they are already working on this. If you look at the concept art for Rubicon, one of them is a fleet of Badgers building a stargate. Although, I am not entirely sure if this means they are aiming to make New Eden bigger, and giving the power to make it bigger to the players (which I'm actually leaning towards), or something along the lines of your idea.

I can also see this changing Sov Warfare in a very big, and possibly negative way. It could also lead to low sec being completely cut off from high sec, essentially cutting off very important resource routes. Null and low is still dependent on high in some aspects, and giving this amount of power to the players could essentially kill the game.

All in all, with this idea, we could see a repeat of the Mara Gatecamp.

That's just my opinion though.

With the afk cloaking issues what it is, people reporting in channels, and up to an hour or 24 hour long intel lag (depending on 1 or 24 hr type of api)... I'd be skeptical on negative impacts.

Rorqual mining hot drops might become excessively difficult but I haven't heard of them being done in a very long time
- drop pos, jump rorqual, jump in miners, get to work, crunch ore, jump out

Also data mining player jumping would be pretty powerful... Coalitions might get into an all out war over them, which could be fun in it's own right...

Can't hurt industrialists, there are allot of jump gates in the game...

Blops', Titans' portals and wormholes will render those logs useless. Also your idea will provide even more free intel which in not good.

If you want to make something destructable - look at outposts.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.
