Actually, the "seed of destruction" was planted at the time of conception.

Do not ask me about how EVE was actually conceived, but I assume it went something like this.

Now, with that out of the way, let's examine the reality of the situation, which is that mining was never safe nor profitable nor sustainable... if you didn't know what you were doing. High sec was never secure, it's just that people became far more efficient at exploiting its complete lack of safety over time. Furthermore, if you don't have the good sense to get yourself established somewhere (both physically and with the right corporation/alliance), just like it always was, you're a guppy. A guppy with its adorable little tail peeking out into the universe, wiggling back and forth, making it easy for the fishies with the big teeth to just swoop past and gobble you up.

Have I fed the troll? Perhaps. Is the OP even still tending this thread? I doubt it. Why am I here?

...

I'm an intolerable extrovert? At work and can't play? Sheer boredom?

You didn't read the whole thread did you? OP, unlike most people, took the comments given to him and decided to adapt.

Actually, I did read that post. My point was that you don't just abandon mining... you learn to do it right.

And he abandoned something he liked to do without putting in the effort to figure out how to do it right.

Don't give in to sweeping generalizations. Mining is very much alive in EVE, but like you said, you have to adapt. The OP chose not to adapt. Instead, he ran away and started doing something "safe".

Reasonable conclusion to draw. Still, doing mining right is kind of a big task, all those accounts. Maybe he just realized he'd been doing it wrong all along. Maybe in doing it right he would have lost what he liked about it.
