Um... How Do I Use My Cargo Hold?

Unbelievable, I know. But I'm genuinely stuck here Shocked

All I'm trying to do is transfer some Veldspar from the Station I'm on to my ship's cargo hold. I have both windows open, drag from the Station inventory, into my ship's cargo hold, and... nothing happens. I can't even shift-drag to only move a specific amount - the window to ask how many I want to move doesn't even show up.

Surely this can't be a bug? I must be missing something really simple...

Drag from station inventory drop into cargo hold. You don't need two windows, you can use the tree to see the cargo hold.

Are you sure you're dropping it on the cargo hold? Not somewhere else? Are you getting any messages at all? Can you shift-drag around station inventory (if not, it may be connection problems)

I can't shift-drag to split the Veldspar even within the station inventory, if that's what you mean. Nothing happens :(

I'll try relogging and see if that helps.

EDIT: Nope, still not working. Can't drag the veldpsar into my cargo hold, and I can't split the stack anywhere. When I drag it over to my cargo hold, and before releasing left click, the ship's cargo capacity (a blue bar) increases to indicate how much space I'll be using after the transfer. But as soon as I release the left mouse button... nothing happens. The veldpsar doesn't move, and that cargo capacity bar plummets back to zero...

EDIT 2: Solved it >.<

I was dragging from my assets tab, instead of my inventory tab. That's where I was going wrong. I'm surprised it doesn't work that way, but I'll remember for the future. Thanks for the assistance :)

The assets tab shows your stuff from all over the universe. You can't move items from another station to your ship's cargo, so dragging from that list doesn't make much sense.

It doesn't make much sense if I'm dragging items from a distant station. But it makes perfect sense if I'm dragging them from the station I'm on. Especially since the layout is almost identical to the inventory tab.

I really do like this game, and want to get fully immersed in it... but damn the UI is convoluted and senseless.

The UI has seen significant improvements over the years, If you think it is bad now you should have seen it 5 years ago when I started playing. Things were even less intuitive back then lol. And there was no tutorial at all to help you.

Overall while it still is much less smooth compared to newer mmos, You get used to it.

I recommend reading about "Unified Inventory".

Google site:community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs unified inventory

Example:
* You can open multiple windows by holding the SHIFT key.
* You can open a window by dragging out of the tree.
* You can make filters persistent across containers in the inventory window's options menu.
* You can enable your inventory and ships to show on the station panel in the ESC menu.
* You can have a different window layout for in-space and in-station.

Eh? The Assets window looks absolutely nothing like the Inventory window.

Think of inventory (Alt-C) as the items in the room that you're currently standing in and assets (Alt-T) as a computerised list of what you own everywhere.

Maybe not when you're used to it, but to me it's pretty much visually identical. The only difference being it can show a list of items from all other stations and ships, and not just the current station.

I clicked on the "box" icon named "assets", saw a list of items for the station I was on, and naturally assumed it must be an accessible inventory. It's definitely my mistake for assuming that, but if you don't see how that's an easy mistake for a newcomer to make... well P

1. Assets list all stations you have items in.
2. Inventory has a tree on the right (ship, ship hangar, item station hold, corp hangars)
3. Inventory has a filter ability under the tree
4. Inventory can show items in tile mode
5. Assets has top tabs to change the range of the search.

And yes, it is an easy to make mistake for a new player, but the 2 windows do not look the same.

I suspect he's actually put all of his items in list view (which shows no images) in his actual hangar tab. I was looking at the two windows last night, and when you put everything in list view, the two can actually look rather similar.
