It is quite possible to play without alts. Just make friends, instead of manufacturing them Lol

POSSIBLE with 1..... Yes.

POSSIBLE to run your own foot over with your car...... Yes.

I personally don't see the point in having some of the massive numbers of accounts that a few have, but then again, a lot of people don't see the point in having 2 accounts.

Things are alot easier with two accounts though, that can train two entirely different directions, or supporting each other, etc.

Also lets you see alot more of the game sooner than you would otherwise, and allows for alot more... flexibility in game play.

I got a second account recently but i think i'm gonna transfer the character when trained and ditch it because i'm just not using it to its potential. can always resub if i need it again.

other than that, having a hauler alt and a factional warfare alt for arcade pew pew/ISK just seems like a bonus. i'm just not that meta.

I haven't been playing very long, but the one thing that stands out to me is meeting everyone, and then meeting everybody again.

Is it possible to do anything worthwhile through actual player cooperation instead of multiboxing?

Yes. I played most of my eve career with 1 account.

But here are SOME activities that require alts to be effective.

I like that.
Is it just me or i'm reading lots of good quotes, perhaps it's the lack of signatures or because i'm listening to this epic pirate music..

You can play without alts, but the longer you play, the more you will want to be able to do. It isn't essential though.

Example: I stopped training one character to train a lab alt for 7 months, so now I have an additional 10 slots for research and manufacturing.

I've always meant to ask: so this is my alt . . . I'd love to have her train some research skills to generate some passive income. But don't I still have to grind missions to get standings (access to higher-level research agents)?

What's the point of training combat skills on an alt that never leaves station?

I think Tau is referring to researching BPOs rather than accessing R&D agents to farm datacores.

Datacore farming is worth so little now I would seriously advise you not to do it, it's a month or more of skill training that you could use more profitably elsewhere. Look up the skill Research Project Management ingame and look at the time on the prerequisites tab, that is how much time you will need to start training the skill that gives you access to more than one R&D agent.

OTOH if you really really like the idea of R&D agents, faction standing gives you access as well, so IMO you'd be better grinding faction that standing with a single corp (and it's useful in other ways as well, access to all agents of that faction, locators etc).

I have 8 so far and plan on making a few more. They're all paid for with null exploration, although the first 3 started off as cash, 2 for spying and corp infiltration when I was war deccing.

I plan on multiboxing the whole 8 as a stealth bomber pvp squad. Why? Because I can... If you don't like it you can always try to kill them.

I don't know if you can play without a second account as I got my second account just a week or two after the first one, 7+ years ago.

You just need 1 smarbombing battleship to take out these 8 accounts Twisted

It's perfectly possible to play without alts or a multibox setup. For monetary purposes it's just a matter of making enough extra profit to cover the subscription cost of the alt. For PVP it's kind of subjective. One group will tell you to never let anyone else light your cyno's. The other group will tell you only peasants light their own cynos. One group will praise you for bringing a logi alt. The other group scolds you for dividing your attention to 2 seperate clients. So it really is a matter of perspective whether or not an alt is usefull, but it's definately not needed to enjoy the game.

The only kind of alts I use are actual "Alternate Characters". As in characters who have nothing to do with eachother and often are on completely different sides of the universe/galaxy (if we're considering wormholes).

If I end up with alternate characters, that will be what I do. Oh, I want to lo-sec roam today, I'll use my lo-sec roamer guy. Oh, I don't want to be killed 50 times. I'll use my hi-sec guy today. :P

I would say you can do anything except move a capital ship by yourself and scout yourself.

Being able to do those two things by yourself is a great timesaver and are besides the obvious uses for multiple accounts (double amount of ships on the field in your favorite PVE/PVP scenario) the main reason people have alts.

I didn't start playing EVE to sit play internet spaceships by myself. I'd much rather have someone scout for me and risk them betraying me than suffer the shame of having to play every role myself.

Greed is the counterweight. You can absolutely do worthwhile stuff in EvE without an alt. I had a blast without an alt for my first two years or so. You just need to find a good corp. Hell, you don't even need to do that. you can do exploration or piracy without an alt. You can do a lot of things. Once you make enough ISK to PLEX though the question is why not start another account? Gate camping is all well and good, until you kill a hauler packed with nice stuff and your cargo hold is insufficient. Why not have a guy in a hauler cloaked in a safe spot? Sure makes life easier. Why not have a guy in a sacrificial BS that just follows you around and boost/reps you? If you can split the loot one less way... well then who needs friends?

You might find, though, that EvE isn't just about ISK. A single-account player has a lot of options in EvE.

Signatures should be used responsibly...
