I was wondering whats the problem with Ship Paint, even corp/alliances logos, premade paints/logos? And why they havent implemented that yet.?

Is it a technical issue?
Are they waiting a sucky expansion to fill it in?
Are they dont want Pink ships around? (remove pink and problem solved, just RGB would be fine)
They dont care?

Why????

Also your customization team are very slow. Damn, this game have 10 years and customization greatest achievement is the "new" portrait.
In my opinion and i know im not alone, the customization team is thinking to much in technical features instead of just cosmetics and social interactions.

There are technical issues which need to be overcome to make it work.

Then there's the art department to blackmail, so players can compromise their vision Blink

Because having the sun blotted out by 10000 flesh colored Thoraxs isn't good PR for EVE.

Because CCP really want to have it as a microtransaction but at the same time they are really afraid of introducing more microtransactions because they already have a subscription model which frankly shouldnt include MT and the players might get mad.

So they're just avoiding it.

Penises, penises everywhere.

Also, it's a loading issue.

Client has a fun time loading 500 ships in some fights.

Imagine if each one had it's own custom skin.

Should be an isk sink that disappears when the ship is repackaged (or destroyed of course!).
Should be a rig module built by players and sold for iso on the free market. The rig then holds the spec for the paint job. Different skills and rig types allow varying complexity of paint job.

Client side we could choose to turn the feature on/off on the basis that our pods decide whether to pass the info to our capsular brains or not. Ultimately, I think people will buy plex to then buy paint rigs which will make money for CCP. There could even be variations of these rigs that can be configured after manufacture but before fitting to ships. Also, some limitation that only certain variants be fitted into ships so the rare factor is maintained for race etc.

My understanding was that this could only happen once V3 was complete but could very easily be wrong on that (?).

Do NOT give the players any kind of freedom to design their own ship 'paints' or colours.

Why you ask?

Because we are a bunch of tarrds, most of whom would be flying around in the most garish/offensive/ugly ships simply to troll everyone else.

Once the full range of ship art upgrades are done, CCP should release 'art department' designed skins that players can buy and apply to our ships.

+1 for getting that word around the word filter.

Penises.
Because several is not as bad as one.

And yeah, you're right about the loading issues.

It's a vanity item. It just needs two settings to disable it:

a) "turn off skins on other people's ships" and

b) a hotkey "to immediately (within one nano-second) switch off skins on my own ship in case my wife/boss/kid looks over my shoulder unexpectedly."

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

CCP wants to use ship skins to tempt money out of peoples' wallets with special editions that will never leave the hangar because the NEX idea was so awful that no one uses it.

So instead of following through on the promised feature, the decision makers at CCP basically threw a tantrum and decided to deny us the feature since they can't leech off of us the way they had intended.

It has nothing to do with technical issues. Textures are stored locally and a single layer controls color. The layering is done by your video card. The only data that is needed is a couple bits worth to tell your computer which one to send to the video card to display on a particular ship.

its a technical issue

Right now- the biggest problem with jumping, loading systems, lag, etc. is what the server has to do to figure out what all skills are in your head when you change sessions.

And you wanna throw a custom paint job on every frigate and shuttle on top of that? Jumping into Jita would take 5 minutes on a slow day while the server figures out why everyones ship is pink. A 6VDT or Asakai would not be possible anymore.

Why do you offer a comment when you clearly have no idea where game data is located or how video cards work?

It's not a client loading issue because you could very easily turn it off in the client. It's not a server issue because it could be tied to any number of separate variables (such as a new hull, or corp, or anything else you can think of) that would need to be loaded anyway and then be interpreted by the client.

Procrastination and possibly terrible legacy code are what is stopping it. Unless it's legacy code related, it's not a technical issue. Stop making excuses for CCP.

Here's an example of someone who's not thinking. The server needs to determine what ship your flying anyway. If your paint job were separate hull, it would need to be loaded anyway. I don't hear people complaining about lag every time CCP introduces a new ship.

And another one thread when someone is mentioning ship skins/painting. Those years, many years, we have been waiting, and we will wait some more unfortunately. :(

Actually there is thread about that in ships and modules section too.

Because I read a Dev blog where CCP I forget what his name was said: The biggest issue with custom paint jobs was servers, load times, lag, etc. and the skills that are in your head and the way the server processes them.

OopsOopsOops

But tell us more about what is possible (without having a clue) and then wildly speculate why it isnt done.
