Failed Career Agent Mission

Died while making a delivery, specifically the fifth business mission, and lost the item I was meant to deliver. Now I have no choice but the cancel the mission, and lose all further rewards, skill books, and game experience. This doesn't seem right to me. The career agent missions are basically tutorials, and now I can't finish one. Do I just bite the bullet and take the loss, or is there anything I can do?

You can just take the mission again after you cancel it.

How the **** could you die in that mission? It's a simple delivery job - no fighting involved.

Anyway, the answer is to petition it. The GMs are very willing to reset tutorial missions for newbies who haven't yet quite got the hang of things.

Only if you go to a different agent.

I got attacked in high sec. Think before you yell at me. I'll try a petition, but this is really something that should be protected against.

If someone attacked you in a newb system it is bannable. Petition it.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

I would really like to know the circumstances of that attack. You should have been in a shuttle or cheap frigate and I can't imagine why anyone would suicide gank in that situation. If it was one of your own corpies being an arse I would advise finding a better outfit to join.

I don't know who killed me. I was stupid and using auto pilot, and I wasn't paying attention. I looked back, saw a lot of flashing red on my overview, and the next moment I was dead.

I was in a combat frigate I got as a mission reward, don't know exactly which ship it was. Hardly anything of value, I could buy a dozen up them outfitted the same way.

You were killed in Alentene which is not considered a Rookie or Career system. People who kill newbs are losers but this is apparently a legal kill.

So yes bite the bullet. You are in a good corp. Ask them for help.

The destination tracker was all blue, so I thought I'd be safe, but I guess you never really are.

A GM answered my ticket, really surprisingly quickly and reset the mission for me, so all is good.

Is Baggo right about Alentene? You shouldn't have been anywhere near there on a tutorial mission.

Which career agent are you missioning for?

Edit: Forgot Clellinon was only a few jumps away.

Loict Mensier. I just set my destination, and followed the warp gates. Stupid me, I took the same route again. I thought I would be safe if I properly jumped instead of using auto pilot, and I got webbed, and killed. I don't really know who, or why, but a number of people are ganking everybody who comes into that system through that jump.

There are already protections in place and it's not something that needs more protection.

It's lucky that you learnt a valuable lesson about the game this early on.

Nowhere in space is safe. It's a common misconception that highsec is safe and it isn't.

I'm not talking about being attacked and killed. I only lost like 300k ISK. I'm talking about the possibility of failing tutorial missions.

I was supposed to deliver it to Vaere.

I'm not going make another petition, because I really was stupid trying the same thing over again, minus the auto pilot. I think I can live without finishing the career missions. Am I losing out on anything I can't just buy off the market? What about what the tutorial teaches? I learned how to manufacture stuff already. As long as I'm only losing out on a little bit of loot, I'm just going to move on.

It's probably not a bunch of people ganking everyone who comes through the gate, it's far more likely to be people in corps that are currently at war with your corp. Lots of corps are at war with Brave Newbies (or were last time I checked)

If they're war targets (they'd have been a flashy red on your overview and a maroon in local), then you're a legal target to them anywhere anytime.

It might be worth leaving your corp, finishing off the career agents (yes, they are worth finishing), doing the Sisters of Eve epic arc and then rejoining.

I second that statement.

Brave Newbies is a great corp if you want to PvP - and the worst corp if you want to enjoy the safety of highsec for PvE.
Do NOT join BN while you are still doing high-sec missions. Once you join BN, highsec becomes less safe than low-sec.
For the same reason, you shouldn't join BN just from anywhere either - first get your stuff into their space, then join them. (Talk to them to know which system they suggest you move your stuff too.)

They advertise themselves as a clan for new players. I wasn't aware that by joining them I could be killed in high sec. I've since left them, and got a second reset on the quest that I failed, and I'm now working on the final quest in the chain, so all is good.

They are a decent corporation for new players interested in pvp, but all players really should complete the tutorials before joining a corporation, just to learn the mechanics of the game. Once you've got a handle on the basics, a good noob-friendly corp will help you learn the more complicated aspects. It's not exactly Brave Newbies fault that high-sec is dangerous for their members. It is just a consequence of the fact that they are a well known corporation and often get war declared on them.
