Accused of cheating...

So, something happened that got me thinking... I just got invited to a duel by an Incursus pilot, I was flying a Maulus. Since I'm looking for PVP'ers for my corp, and want to see what people are made of who are willing to PVP, I accepted blindly, win or lose, and went for it. It's arty fit, with duel damps, so I started with a pair of Hob IIs in a 15km orbit with warp disruptor and full micro going, got him into armour with drones (beyond falloff for arty) and discovered he had an active tank, so I decided to stay at range with both damps going with range damping scripts, making him unable to target me (he could still target my drones though)...

And was in the middle of thinking about how I was going to beat an active tanked Incursus with my piddly 64dps and only 1313ehp when he docked up.

And accused me of cheating.

Meanwhile, I'm warping off to the insta that I have 200km off the station, on-grid, due to having a limited engagement and not being able to dock and wondering why someone that is tanking the combined damage of 2 combat drones withdraws from the fight.

Turned out, the guy decided to invite me to duel with an active-tanked Incursus with no prop mod, and when he discovered that he would never be able to get me in blaster range, told me I was cheating, I was a coward, I had no balls, and I'm not a fair player.

I was so incredibly amused, I warped to my insta dock right on the undock of the station and invited him to fight me at zero, which he did, and scrammed me so my MWD was out and took me to half armour. I will admit here that for a brief moment, watching him strip my shields and armour so quickly, I was a little nervous and felt a bit foolish for giving him any rope at all. Meanwhile, though, I had an opportunity to test overloading my arty on him at close range and discovered that his active tank couldn't handle it very well. Eventually, my still faster 577 m/s without MWD took me out off scram range and it was back to damping while I tried to keep him inside falloff to do as much damage as possible, and he docked again, spewing the same routine he had above....

I left the system laughing, telling him where I'd be if he ever wants to try again. Thing is, it got me thinking... I wonder how much this happens to more experienced PVP'ers than myself.

What's the most amusing 'PVP' experience you've ever had where your enemy has been... let's be generous and say 'less than sporting'?

I like long stories, but while that's an incredibly amusing kill, I'm kinda more curious about the attitude of the player you killed.

Also, I realise the censored word isn't 'story' but imma pretend it is.

Eh, that sounds pretty typical. Some folks use the words 'cheating' and 'unsporting' interchangeably... but then he duelled you, so he has no right to complain about your ship doing exactly what it's supposed to. I mean, I dont think a maulus is a sporting duelling ship, but if I duelled you I'd deserve everything I got.

Now, my story...

Recently I had a chappy fire at my scanner ship while it was suspect flagged. I wasn't really looking for a fight, but loot was good so I nabbed it. Anywho, I reshipped to a BC and he started saying bad things about me and my honour as he ran away... Now this chappy is a missioner, so I probe him down and get my PvP fit probe to go take a look.

A short flag later and he has aggressed. He starts bragging in local about how I'll never kill him, yada yada... and at 122 DPS it was taking a while. About the time that he got to 30% shield he realised hes not gonna last, so he started yelling for help in local. A Legion pilot was kind enough to fleet him up and come eject me from the mission pocket just before I could finish turning his Ferox into wreckage with an unboosted PvP fit Probe with no backup.

I haven't heard from the Ferox pilot since. edit: also I should probably point out that this was apparently all my fault and I am a horribly bad person according to the others in local <_<

Way back.

Flying a rifter in 0.0, came across a pirate in a kestrel. He 'graciously' accepted the fight, at which point i killed him without ever getting into armor.

He then starts a very strange explanation about how i should pay him 15m for protection money (when that was still a lot), how i wouldn't have to be afraid of him attacking me again.

I didn't pay and i'm fairly sure he quit playing the next month >_>

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

A corpmate of mine was messing about in an ice belt, politely bumping things with a slasher due to a lack of targets in the surrounding wormholes and low sec. At some point, he annoys a hurricane pilot to the point that the hurricane invites him to a duel. The two start fighting, applying neuts as best they can, until the cane's modules turn off. Turns out he's shield got and capped himself out. In addition, a cane with no webs and 425 mm AC will never hit a slasher unless the slasher moves to low transversal.

No dice there. It takes about 45 minutes but that cane dies a long embarrassing death to a slasher.

Also of note was a rail megathron that died to a badger last year.

There was also an iteron V that killed a rohk a few years back the got a page dedicated to it in the EON mag.

I, too, have great examples of people like him. I sat outside the docking range of Boundless Creations Station,
when a thrasher started orbitting me at which seemed to be his optimal, inviting me to a duel.

I aligned to my next bookmark on grid, initiated warp and accepted when i was warping off.

He complained.

I warped towards 50km to him and started shooting.

He complained.

I have another example. Some guy from a corp in Hek wanted to fight me and i accepted. He was sitting right next to me
in a hurricane and i accepted. I warped around in my sniping thrasher, on grid, and kept shooting at him, without him able
to return even a single shot, until he had to dock up.

Of course ... he complained.

Many people can not accept when they are outsmarted or fights aren't going their way.

People complain about me "running away", while avoiding faction police or simply warping around on grid,
not giving them a chance to put a finger onto me, while i keep pounding my ammo into them.
Being outsmarted hurts them more than losing.

I have realised that this is the wrong thing to do. This will gradually turn you into what they are.
When you laugh about them, you are raising yourself above them ...
... and if there is a need to raise yourself ...
... then it's because you are at a lower position.

Instead, accept with pride that there are people who have sad lives and are desperate for accomplishments.

Laughing about them will only lower you to their level.
It's like consuming what they are,
which will turn you into them.

I wonder how you would have reacted, if it had been you who fought me.

Generally people's fragile ego can't handle taking responsibility for their own losses and mistakes, so rather than have to admit you out played him morons find it more soothing to blame outside sources they have no control over. ie; cheating.

It happens a lot. If someone kills me in any way, no matter how "unsporting", I congratulate them for outwitting me. The way to view Eve is that every player anywhere is boosted, with full implants, and a full skilled off grid booster nearby and is flying their ship with a fit that would directly counter yours. Also, they're going to dock up and get something bigger as soon as you engage, and they are going to have friends warp in on you as soon as your caught, or light a cyno.

When you find out half of those things weren't true, your happy. When they were true or something else surprises you, you might not be happy but at least you expected it and can calmly say "Gf" in local and mean it.

Next you should try ganking miners. You have already filled up at least one spot of the bingo card: http://www.minerbumping.com/p/bingo.html

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.
