I suggest the inclusion of a new skill:

Smuggling - 17.5% per level to avoid being scanned/fined while moving contraband goods.

I am not sure where it would fit in the skills tree, but I think it would be appropriate to have it linked in some way to Fast Talk and Evasive Manoevring. I realise that the two pre-reqs have nothing whatsoever to do with each other (Social and Navigation) but it fits in my mind :) Say, pre-requisite would be Lvl 4 in both.

Maxed out there is still a chance of being caught (12.5%), but it is still a bit of a gamble to move contraband. I am not sure whether 20% per level is too much - I don't believe you should be totally immune to being caught.

I fail to understand smuggling as a concept in and of itself. Within the game it seems impossible to do withiut getting caught

that's the point of the OP --> add in a skill that reduces the chance of the faction customs officers actually catching you.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

This thread is inspiring me to Necro previous smuggling threads. CCP has expressed interest in the concept of smuggling in previous threads in this forum. the more discussion and ideas put forth the more likely we will actually see a smuggling profession in the future.

Even the best smugglers get boarded sometimes. Some scruffy nerf herder said that I think.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Smugglers secret. Smuggling isn't a solo activity.

Not every gate always has a customs agent.

You can shoot custom agents and concord wont show up.

You have to get a fleet up and have combat ships with logi taking out the custom agents ahead of your smuggler.

Believe it or not some activities in eve actually take cunning to pull off and its not all "give me a passive skill to do it easier!"

I'm just going to leave this "Smuggling love"! here...and request a lock.

EDIT:

Lock requested for these reasons: "Please lock as this is a duplicate of an existing threat on this subject. I've directed the OP at it as it's been open since June and contains >4 pages of comments from the community."

The only Dev I have heard speak of it is Soundwave, and now he's gone. When he did speak of it, the smuggling profession was integrated into WiS. You were supposed to have to physically meet up to do the deal, black market goods would no longer be on the market.

The other important factor was they were planning on making boosters worth smuggling. Rebalancing the penalties vs rewards so that more poeple would actually want them.

why get a fleet to kill the customs agents when you can simply transport the goods in a cloaky truck and never get caught... Yes i have done it before.
