Hi,

Jetcan mining is de facto, and a nuisance. I propose a way to streamline while retaining the risks and rewards. Create a siege like module that hinders mobility while greatly increasing hull strength, and cargo capacity to orca/freighter size.

Benefits:

-performance: remove system overhead of constantly managing jettison containers for every mining operation in the galaxy.

-aesthetic: neater space.

-miners: remove annoying, constant emptying of cargo hold. Great for multiple account miners.

-pirates: greater jack pot for pilots praying on miners. (think "pinata") No more warping hulk fleets away.

Which part of Jetcan mining is a nuisance exactly? Neater space as a pro is about a weak an argument as I have ever heard, considering that space is filled with all kinds of crap anyway.

Orcas and (especially freighters) really don't need more cargo space. And, while we're on the subject, how does one attach a module to a freighter exactly?

Add to that the fact that you can't warp the very expensive mining vessel out while you have this module active and you have just created a module that no one outside of highsec will ever use. Congratulations.

Your miners benefit is questionable at best, since you mention the module would go on Orcas, which means the miners themselves would still have to be constantly annoyed at emptying their cargo holds into the Orca.

And I am guessing that the whole performance thing would have already been dealt with as low hanging fruit by CCP if it were really that much of a concern.

Which leaves the pirate benefit. I was unaware you were so deperate for undefended ships to asplode that you would propose something as obvious as this.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Actually, no.
This is aimed at mining barges and exhumers, NOT orcas/freighters.
Mining barges and exhumers do need more space. The purpose is to never have a miner repeatedly empty his cargo into a jetcan - by giving him a very, very large cargohold. The vulnerability trade off of losing mobility REQUIRES a defensive combat fleet, compare to current method of simply run away.

Ideally, the miners would engage seige mining, enjoy a huge cargo hold, call in the defensive fleet, mine for a few cycles (1-2 hours), unload, cycle down, and leave. All hauling is done at the END of the operation.

and the rorq has the mining siege module ...
