Game freezes all the time, can't play like this :(

Hello, I used to run a windows 7 system with a GeForce GTX 570 video card and everything was running smoothly in EVE. Unfortunately the video card broke, so I had to get a new one. I formatted the PC and put windows 8 and am using a AMD Radeon 7870. Problem is that now the game freezes all the time. It's impossible to alt+tab, it freezes instantly. However even when I am not doing absolutely anything it just freezes. If I switch overview settings it freezes, if I open anything like skills window it freezes, etc. Any way I can fix this without having to buy new video cards or operating systems?
