EVE Online trending towards pay to win?

I wanted to roll out this discussion to see what you guys think .

I recently looked at the bigger picture of EVE and was thinking about things like "PLEX", "Simultaneous Alt Training", etc. and I was wondering - is EVE trending towards a "pay to win" scenario?

It's not meant in a bad way - where I'm trying to say CCP is greedy with money or anything.

I know you have a choice to play the game completely for free if you choose to, but the more you invest, the greater the benefits it seems.

Do you guys feel the same or oppose this analogy?

I bought 3 plex to buy and outfit my hyperion... i need to buy another like 4 more for the two 1bil officer reppers I want....

BUT ...

Guess what happens if that all gets blown up?

Sure u can buy plex and trade it for isk, but it isnt gonna help you make a sustainable income.

*Edit* in case you have trouble with math thats 7 x $20 ... not exactly sustainable ...

You know this is a subscription based game, right?

Everybody pays. If you don't pay, you can't win.

What do you consider winning at eve? No amount of bling in this game makes you immune to getting blown up.
So how can you pay to win?

Well If I mine, I get minerals for free. I can trade those minerals for isk, and I can trade that isk for plex. Therefore, I don't pay, and I can win for free. P

It's already been pay to win, it's just that a lot of people hadn't realized it yet. They were looking at it from the wrong angle. Twisted

That's a very good argument actually.

Perhaps the term 'winning' is misplaced here.

I would argue that it is multi account to win, but that could be perceived as pay to win.

Oh, gods.... more of this crap?

Look, here. The EA guy that was brought on-board, not too long ago, was hired as a member of the DUST 514 team. DUST 514 is a free-to-play PS3 game that relies on voluntary microtransactions in order to be profitable, and even that doesn't result in a pay-to-win scenario. He has no influence on decisions regarding EVE, anyhow, and never will.
CCP is NOT going to sell out to EA. These people are smart, and they know what has happened to every other video game developer that has sold out to or partnered with EA (Squaresoft being the most damning example of the "don't sell out to EA" rule).

This isn't Travian. This isn't a Kixeye Facebook app game. This isn't World of Warcraft. This is EVE.
PLEX is not pay-to-win... PLEX is either "save me from having to mission-grind", or "hey, I have a crap-ton of ISK and I'd like to play for free, this month", and nothing else.
Nothing that came with the CE gives you any sort of unfair advantage (except for the eyepatch and robot arm making your Space Barbie look better than everyone else's).
Dual Character Training is NOT pay-to-win. It is CCP's way of saying "just because you have two characters on one account, doesn't mean you should be punished... here's a way out".

CCP has said, numerous times that they are NOT going to introduce any pay-to-win features. In fact,t hey're so adamantly against the idea that they have frequently punished people, severely, for RMT, and have flatly refused to combat it by introducing microtransactions for fitted ships and officer modules.

So, kindly knock the crap off. Those of us that pay attention to what is actually happening, are tired of seeing these threads.

Well.....to run 3 chars training on an account cos 3 plex, which is, at current prices, 1.8bn a month/account that you want to have all active characters on.

Now, the question is, do you "win" by more than 600m a month with each extra character, vs someone who just leaves the other chars sitting on the account with their month long training already done.

You are not really having anything others cannot have, sure, i might lose 1 month training my main to train up another freighter/indy/cyno/PI pilot, but, losing that 1 month does not mean I am down 600m in potential profits....so, no, not pay to win.

For longer term training, i would open a 2nd account, say for a maxed incursion bear, or a T2 builder/inventor, and then fill the other slots...so, then I am paying exactly the same as the other guys, of course, they don't need to keep paying every month once training is completed, but, then, I get to log 2 accounts in at once, so, swings and roundabouts.

Well I'm pissed off with all of the alts going around, I read on a really reputable site the other day that everybody should have a scouty alt to scout for their pvp main. Stuff like that depresses me more than people buying plex for isk as a way of short cutting the grind that we face to get stuff that we then lose in battle. Doesn't anyone just jump into a system anymore and take their chances?

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

lol seems like I pushed the wrong button.

I wasn't aware of any of this and didn't mean to draw parallels to other games or companies.

I don't even mean to bash CCP here - it was just something I was wrapping my head around ^^

I'll quietly let this post die now.

Boring.

Anyhow, as i said i won't derail threads for a day ....

No, EvE does not in any way ever move towards the direction of being pay2win.

1. The existing players won't let that happen.
2. There is no sudden influx of a high amount of new players that would demand such a change in the foreseeable future.
