Same issue, resolved by going to DX9, but reporting as an issue here.

Laptop, Windows 7, Radeon 6650M... possibly older drivers at play.

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

GTX 550ti, had the same issue in DX11 mode, checked for driver updates, seems there was a driver update, lets see what happens after the update.

I´ll leave this here:

Singularity is now back online with the new mirror and the new build, which includes multiple characters in training.

IMPORTANT: The EVE launcher will try to start the client with DX11, which will result in a completely black client. Go to the settings in the launcher (small cog-wheel in the top right corner), switch to the tab "DirectX" and select dx9.

Not if it would make a difference, however is CCP using Directx 11 or 11.1?

Also what I find strange is when I run DXDIAG it says I have Directx 11, however the NVIDIA Control Panel says Directx 10 (6.1.7600.16385)

Yeah, this is a known issue and totally our fault. You can stop reporting with your system details.

We are running a client without dx11 support at the moment on Singularity, but the launcher is trying to start the client with dx11. The client understands the setting to use dx11, but it fails to use it correctly - which leads to our current problems. Oops
Our apologies for this trouble.

to fix this open the launcher and select the cog icon in the top left to load the eve launcher settings. select the directx tab and change from dx11 to dx9 and the client will use dx9. obviously this is a workaround and not a fix Big smile

Logged in this morning no problem, found myself having to relog mid afternoon and found myself landing on a black screen as well. This is on a Mac client though, and the problem only started occurring middle of the day, didn't notice any sort of patch that would have changed its ability to load.
