Tobias awoke to the sound of the proximity alarm… ‘strange’ he thought as there was nothing unusual on the ships scanner. After a few seconds the alarm stopped and was replaced by a mining laser malfunction warning. “That’s all I need” Tobias said to no-one in particular as he reviewed the log on the mining system. What he found didn’t make sense, as the laser had been temporarily deflected away from the Kernite asteroid ahead of his ship. With all systems reading normal again, Tobias shrugged the anomaly off as nothing and settled back to resume his state of light sleep he was unusually adept at.

The ships D-scan, as usual was set to a 20 second cycle as this area of space was notorious for Rats. This had proved invaluable on a number of occasions as his small ship was no match for even the smallest Sansha frigate. The range extenders he had fitted to considerable expense gave him the best window of escape when hostile ships warped near. This was one of those days but the extended range was no help as the Sansha ship materialised on the scanner much closer than anticipated. The drowsiness Tobias felt was washed away in an instant as adrenalin flooded into his body. He turned the mining laser off and started the jump sequence to the local star base already programmed into his navigation computer.

“Warp jump failed” sounded from the ships navigation computer as a warp scrambler was fired at Tobias’ ship, not from the frigate on the scanner, but from a large Veldspar asteroid to the Starboard side of his ship. What he saw next made the colour drain from Tobias’ face and his heart drop… It wasn’t the new frigate which appeared on his scanner that fired the warp scrambler that triggered this reaction, but the cruiser that slowly appeared from the far side of the asteroid.

It was unheard of to see a Sansha cruiser this far into Concord space which meant one of two things: Sansha had been covertly busy expanding its influence, or this was one gutsy captain. Just as Tobias was coming to terms with his imminent demise, when the reason for the mining laser malfunction became shockingly apparent. Between his ship and the three Sansha pirate ships, what Tobias could only describe as two evil looking flying gun batteries de-cloaked and began firing on the pirate ships. He had never seen ships such as these, only hearing of them from deep space pilots telling tall stories in dark corners of the local bars.

The two frigates went down in the first volley of rapid blaster fire. A slight pause followed as the distance between the two Concord ships and the pirate cruiser decreased, before the blasters started tearing chunks off the pirate cruiser as if the shields weren’t even there. The cruiser pilot must have engaged his micro warp drive the moment the navy punishers de-cloaked as he suddenly lurched away from the engagement. The two Nemesis gave chase and left the asteroid belt in pursuit of their prey.

Sat staring out in the direction of the rapidly ending battle, Tobias’ nerves were shot and he decided to call it a day and have a well deserved drink to steady his nerves.

Any feedback would be greatly recieved...

Not a bad effort bud, especially at 3 am. But I agree with the guy above me, try and write one a bit longer and keep the reader gripped into reading. It's all over too quick (granted that is like a lot of fights in EVE, over far too quickSad).

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."
