Freighters could use one of the options below

--A single lowslot

--1.5x to 2x the ehp

If you fit an orca with reinforced bulkheads and a damage control in the lows you get more ehp then a freighter so they are fine.

What would be the reason for this buff to freighters?

Why not nerf the EHP to where you need a DCU2 to achieve current eHP level? Why the nerf to cargo capacity? Freighters aren't easy to gank (there would be a lot more dead freighters if they were)

That would allow a cargo-expanded freighter to fit more than 1 million m3 of cargo, which would allow packaged capital ships to be freighted (which is obviously not intended, given their volume). That's why nerfing the cargo is preferential.

That said, for those advocating for a nerf to cargo, please keep in mind that a cargo expander has a built in 20% reduction to structure HP, which is an equivalent reduction to dropping from Mechanics 5 to Mechanics 0. For my alt's Charon, that's a 14.7% reduction in EHP at Mechanics V. As a result, if the cargohold were dropped by 21.6% (so it's equal to current with a single Expanded Cargohold II), and it also had equal EHP to current with an ECII, it would have 115% more EHP with a single DCII running (387.5k with all 5s).

What would probably work better would be a 5.3% increase in speed, a 20% reduction in maximum cargohold, and an 11.1% increase in structure HP, but a limit of no active modules in that low slot.

With an EANM II fitted, the freighter would be 5.3% faster, have 20.09% less cargo (Charon would max at 784200 m3, just less than the current maximum with Caldari Freighter 0), and would have 15% more EHP with all Vs (207k on a Charon, versus the current is 180k with all Vs), compared to current.

With an Expanded Cargohold II, it would have 1.91% more cargohold (999950 m3 on a Charon, just under the 1 million m3 limit), move 5.23% slower, and have 8.20% less EHP (165k on Charon).
