Catalyst vs. Noctis. Doable?

So I've decided to put my mission- and incursion-running ways away, and want to get into some lowsec PvP and do a bit of suicide ganking on the side. My home base being only a few jumps away from a minor mission hub (50-80 people in the primary system at any one time, and another 15-30 missioners in the neighboring systems), I've given consideration to trying my hand not at the standard miner ganking (which is a fairly common event), but to instead try ganking salvagers and industrials in this hub (and, once my skills are better, perhaps taking a gank Talos out go go against mission-runners, as well).

My big question, though, is this: Do people tend to fit out their Noctises (Noctisii? Noctisus?) with defensive mods? I never ran salvage, being able to make more ISK blitzing through missions, so I never bothered. I see they have lower raw HP than a Mack, which get ganked all the time, so I'm assuming that it's possible, but people also don't tend to fit their Macks for defense, so I'm still curious about it the Noctis.

Either way, I'll probably lose a number of ships learning what's doable and what isn't, anyways.

Cheers!

Most Noctis don't have a DCU fitted, those can be taken down by a normal t2 ion gank catalyst. I use

Replace the SeBo by an Afterburner if they are in deadspace and you can't warp directly on them. That takes them out in 0.5 and 0.6 space with ease.

Great to hear! Thank you! Fortunately, the hub is in a 0.6.

Thanks again!

hm, this sounds interesting. what kind of dps should I look for before attempting this? I'm just wondering about skills mainly.

Untanked Noctis has 11.3k ehp against blasters, you have 19 seconds in a prepared 0.6 system, that equals 595 DPS needed. If you have overheating skills you should aim for 520 DPS in the ingame fitting window. (520*1.15=598). In reality you will need quite a lot less dps because:

- People don't have Mechanics/Shield Management/Hull Upgrades to Level V in their Salvager
- People often fit Cargoexpanders in the lows or Cargohold Optimization rigs, reducing their EHP

You will occasionally fail a gank because the target is smart and fits a DCU, but these cases are quite rare.

Study Material

Concentrate on the hi-sec kills but review them all to see how they are typically fit

If you want to do this with a Catalyst, you'll need to probe out the missions.
Do not attempt it on a gate or a station.

Here is a nice collection of mostly noctis kills from our most famous Noctis killer Fawn Tailor:

Oh, hey! I hadn't even thought of using killboards to see fits and kills. Awesome! So much to study and learn...

Nope! I learned that watching gankers on Jita and Amarr's undock and gates. I'm training probing skills on my hauler alt right now. Consequently, said alt will also be the one scooping loot for me!
