Love the technical details. But, being generous, I understood about 60% of that. Anybody care to explain (or link to) how axis aligned bounding boxes, light source’s viewpoints, and shadow receivers all tie together?

Also: pretty.

Personally I rarely have the view zoomed in anywhere near close enough to see shadows more than "dat side of ship is darker than other" but nice that it'll look better when I DO zoom in closer. Probaly quite a few people will think "meh so what?" about this but it's all the 'little' details like this that come together to make any game look more awesome and shiny overall, great that you can squeeze out improvements like this for (hopefully actual) little increase in loadSmile

Properly won't get an answar, but is there any updates on the new Nebulae's you showcased at last fan fest ? and which have been show casing in you latest "trailers", it's a part i'm really exited to have as our current Nebulae's looks pretty much... well they look like ****, sorry :P

Hopefully we can get a answar if this will be part of winter exspansion or if the ETA is still Soon tm.

I maybe a party poopper, but to be honest, the existing shadows are good enough. I fail to see what a huge improvement this change makes.

If you want to improve how the game looks update some more ships like you did with the scorpion.

My props off to the dev for making this improvement. It's a rare thing to see any kind of visual improvement in a game without a noticeable increase of system resources, and you pulled it off splendidly.

Oh wait 99% of players disable shadows in their client because just slowing their VGA speed ...
Maybe this is the useless CQ part 2.

If your computer is so bad you need to disable the shadows due to rendering speed, it might be time to shell out $15 to upgrade.

yay more prettiness that i can't see because my GPU sux. I haven't had high level shadows on for a while so I won't miss this either...how bout some game improvements vs pretty stuff? Pretty is nice, but honestly, if you got a good game it doesn't matter what it looks like. Look at half the iPhone apps out there. They look like garbage but people still play them...

Fix broke stuff before you go make new stuff that'll break please....

Looking good, but I'd like to see an image of a frigate or other ship casting a shadow on a gate, so I know whether I'll want to re-enable shadows.

Awesome, especially if it is true about minimal impact on performance. It's not often I take the time to look at shadows but nice all the same. I would be lying if I said I never look at the ships closely. Does this mean that ship textures are possibly getting upgraded soon as well. I hope so:)
