Hi

After having accumulated a fair amount of ISK, I think I want to try ratting in lowsec.
I can fly Amarr and Caldari cruisers. Gal and Tar cruisers are very short training time away.
What would be your recommendation for taking down BS rats in anomalies? I'll be kiting them since I suppose I can't tank them at point blank range.
I think Caracal, rail Moa or Thorax are good choices. What do you think?

BS rats will out range your cruiser by a long shot so it will be better to get under their guns and speed tank them.

you want cheap and hi dps, even if you have a bit of isk. Doing it with a t1 cruiser, you should make far more than what you'll lose from your occasional (and inevitable) losses. You also have a lot of training to do, depending on the ship you choose.

if you choose a shield ship - you have t2 shield hardeners already, this is excellent
if you choose an armor ship - train hull upgrades, mechanics, and repair systems to 4 asap. don't worry about t2 hardeners, t2 reps, meta 4 hardeners, and t2 damage control are good enough

if you choose any ship with a drone bay, pick up a bunch of the drone skills and train them to lvl 2.

moa - shields/blasters/mwd
caracal - shields/HML or HAMS/ and afterburner
thorax - armor/blasters/mwd/drones
vexor - I'd recommend against it until you have higher skills. with better skills its the highest dps of all of them easily.
arbitrator - armor/drones

in any one of these ships you'll do well, however there will be a learning curve, but the performance of these ships will go up significantly as you round out the core skill areas they require.

1 more tip. Running anoms in a cruiser in low sec is being too get ganked. Consider the combat sigs, although they may require a beefier ship & fit

Since there's always one person who suggests something the OP didn't ask for, I suggest getting into an Attack Battlecruiser sooner rather than later. They're relatively cheap to buy and fit and slice through lowsec anomalies like nothing due to their high dps and ability to project that dps to ranges that keep them safe.

Praxis: doing anything in lowsec is asking to get ganked. It's really a non-issue if you're semi-competent and watch d-scan.

True but most combat sigs have gates that momentarily decloak a scout whereas anoms allow me to sneak right up next to you.

A Caracal with an afterburner and HAMs should do you just fine. The Caracal is also versatile enough to handle any other faction of rats if you decide to move later.

Thanks for the anwers. :)

I'll be trying out a HAM Caracal and both Moa and Thorax with blasters and an afterburner.
