Hi guys,

For some time now i'm thinking about making my own EVE video.
However i have literaly no experience in making video related content.

What do u guys think is a good way to start?
Any&all hints will be highly appreciated!

Done some research on related software and from "newb" perspective following 2 programs seem to be pretty good way to start.

Video capturing: Fraps
Video editing: PowerDirector 12 Deluxe

What do you guys thing about these?
Thanks in advance for your comments and imputs.

Software is/should be fine. Once you got a good fraps, you can edit it sufficiently with mostly any program, just that programs like aftereffects can make up for a lot of lacking editing/transforming skill or, if you are adept already, extend your possibilities a lot.

If the question was also about pvp-fraps, can read more opinion here: http://pastebin.com/sB4N0FWz

I prefer DxTory to FRAPS myself. It let's you set up compression while recording, which means smaller files after initial recording, and it also has an awesome option of recording each output and input audio channel seperately which is simply amazing if you are recording coms and what not.

Can anyone recommend good and free/cheap video editing software?

I am willing to spend money, but not as much as premier asks for.

If i have to be honest your spotlight on EVE site and your Uboat vids kinda kick-started me about this whole video thing.
Big fan

I will definitely check DxTory, thanks for suggestion!

Also even when i have pretty decent PC, question comes to my mind about performance issues while capturing the video. Does Fraps/DX have any effect on performance while playing?

This is another reason I chose DxTory.

With FRAPS my experiance was that it decreased my in game FPS by half when recording.
DxTory does not do that, in fact you simply set up the FPS rate you want the video to have (30 FPS is prefered since YouTube doesn't allow more), and it will simply record videos at 30 FPS while keeping your in game FPS intact (whatever it might be).

This is what it looks like when editing (I use sony vegas).
Red audio stream is in-game sound (incomming)
Blue audio stream are voice comms (incomming)
Purple audio stream is me (mic, outgoing)

If you think that was overwhelming take a look at this: http://i.imgur.com/QEJTwR9.jpg lol

It's pretty easy to be honest. Unless you're trying to learn something like Adobe After Effects or such.

I recommend spending as little money as possible until you find out if you enjoy creating videos or not.

Years ago when I first started making videos I spent $42 on a license of Fraps, $10 on a mic, and used Windows Movie Maker for editing. I did my best to keep things cheap.

Since then I've spent much more money on software and equipment.

Good luck, Elistea
