Warp scrambles in high sec

A couple of hours ago I undocked in 1.0 high sec and warped to a gate. As i was just about to actually warp a notice poped up on my screen that someone was attempting to scramble my warp. I was in my mission runner so I had no stabs fitted. The scramble did not succeed, I assume because I was too far into the warp process. My questions are as follows. Does a scrambler only work if warp has not yet been initiated or can it still work if they just catch you soon enough? Also, does scrambling someone in high sec trigger a Concorde response? Finally, if they scramble me can I fire on them without a Concorde response or do I have to wait till they fire first? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Scram will only work if you aren't yet warped per se. If you are still in the process of aligning and speeding-up for warp, they can still catch you. Although CONCORD will intervene in High Sec if you are not a valid target (say War Target or a suspect/criminal) for the person trying to attack you.

Take note: Warp scrambling, even target painting, is an act of aggression (although ship scanning isn't).

And yes, you can fire on them even before CONCORD gets there, since they will already be flagged as criminals. 1.0 being the fastest CONCORD response you can expect with 0.5 being the slowest.

It may not have been you that was targeted, that message will pop up if anyone on the same grid as you tries to scramble. Check if you have kill rights on your character sheet, if you don't have any then it wasn't you who was attacked but someone else on grid.

And make SURE it is you they are targeting before you shoot them. Sometimes people will fleet up and scramble each other just to confuse new players into shooting at them. Then CONCORD will come and abuse your ship.

Hmmm . . . . . I don't think so.

I haven't done much fleet work, but if I remember rightly scrambling each other in fleet would get them CONCORDed.

Yes it will, unless they're also in the same player corp or dueling or otherwise a legal target.

To be consice, in order to warp scramble someone, they need a lock first. Should a person achieve lock and scram, you will not be able to enter warp. Once you enter warp, anyone that had a lock on you will lose it. It is thus not technically possible for someone to warp scramble you while you are actually in a warp.

My first bet is that you saw a warp scramble attempt on someone else flicker by as a notification. Consult Notifications and Log to see who the actual targets were: these notifications pop up for everyone on grid and are verry common so see when people initiate a duel or gank someone.

Should you yourself be the subject of a warp scramble attempt, and you had no stabs fitted and were not in a Venture / Blockade Runner, you would not have been able to enter warp. And yes, using any form of warp disruption on someone is considered a hostile act. In hisec that would get the agressor CONCORDed. In lowsec he would recieve a Suspect flag, which would indeed allow you to return fire (and scram him back!) without CONCORD intervention. Do realize you will still recieve a Weapons Timer, and cannot jump through gates or dock at stations for 60 seconds while this timer is still active.

It is an old trick to create a jetcan and name it "you", then warp scramble it.

Thank you for all the replies. I believe at this point just a grid notification. I was literally a second from actual warp and didnt even get a chance to read it completely before it and I were gone. I assumed as much concerning the Concorde response to such an action but wanted to verify before I went around scraming people for s&g.

Also, if you don't read carefully and completely, you can miss the container part of the message. Panic, sleep deprivation, and alcohol can be contributing factors.

I was just clarifying the situation as your original comment implied that fleet members can aggress each other without CONCORD reaction - not a good idea in the newbie forum and therefore in need of correction.

Probably the message you saw was one person warp scraming another person, unrelated to you. If you where in the process of jumping, the message may not have been on your screen long enough to read it. It may have been corp mates play fighting, a duel or war targets fighting.

Yes, if someone activates any offensive module against you in high sec, Concord will pop them. Even if the module can't directly hurt you, like a target painter, they will be Concorded. In a 1.0 system, it will be nearly instant too.
