Frequent disconnects, socket closed

In the last few days I have been getting frequent disconnects / socket closed issues. I notice many others are experiencing similar types of issues.

Is this something CCP is looking into? Or is this usually a client router/ISP issue? I don't tend to have issues with other games or applications, so I figured it would be worth checking here first.

Thanks.

ccp looked into it and said it's the fault of dozens of isp's around the world. apparently all the isp's are broken.

seriuosly, do you think if it;s ccp fault they would acknowledge it? there would get hundreds of requests for reimbursement which of course they would disregard anyways.

there's quite few responses to what ppl tried and it worked.

all else play on dialup. maybe the phone lines ain't broke YET

Socket Closed errors have been sporadic issues for as long as I've been playing (especially just after Apocrypha), but can be really hard to diagnose since the error itself is just 'Something's Wrong... but I'm not telling you what'. They can be caused by legitimate connection problems, high ISP/network traffic, hardware/software conflicts, damaged or obstructed cables (like a chair squeezing a network cable), bad weather, viruses or malware, poor traffic routing or any number of other factors.

I had spadeloads of them between Apocrypha and Dominion (almost every session, sometimes multiple times per session), then they magically disappeared only to return after Odyssey. After running numerous connection tests and OS/driver diagnostics it turned out that my Odyssey socket closed errors were being caused by a virus I didn't have a clue was on my system and which wasn't picked up by my AV software. Once that was cured the problem went away for whatever reason and hasn't yet returned, touch wood (*taps head*).

I have no idea why EVE is so much more sensitive to this sort of event than any other games I've played though. Hopefully it'll be a temporary problem for you and the issue will sort itself out as is often the case with PC problems. Good luck!
