The clone upgrade thing is fine the way it is.

It forces you to take care of your clone and makes your think twice before letting whoever shot you teleport you back to station.

Because upgrading your clone every time you die is "taking care of it". Right.

A good implant set will turn a mediocre pilot into a pilot who still mediocre but has 10%+ extra tank/dps/speed.... Anyone interested in getting ganked by one of these?...

How would this be different from how it is now, other than making it more expensive to use implants and less expensive not to use implants?

Good idea :)
I believe that a midlink implant slot should appear earlier in the chain, but overall, +1 !

In combination with CCP Seagulls last prezo this has me thinking:

- What if a default clone were always available for free like a rookie ship is. Full SP.

- What if the Cybernetics skill not only determined how many implants and what quality you can use but the quality of clone as well you could advance to and jump into.

- What if there were more advanced clones with more capabilities, player made from Genolution BP's, from harvested biomass and other materials.

- What if at medical stations you had a tab like ships and items but one for Clone Bay and could store advanced clones there, and change clones like you change ships. Perhaps the number of advanced clones is limited by your Biology skill or something.

Just brainstorming here.

Agreed with op that this should be readdressed. IMO I don't see a clone cost + SP lost penalty as something that makes the game better. It's just a general penalty for not using an alt.

Disagree with the OP's implementation. There should be a reasonable penalty for using expensive implants + getting podded in the same sense that using expensive modules / hulls will penalize you if you lose your ship.

This doesn't make sense. A "reasonable penalty" is already in place... 1) First having to purchase said expensive implants and 2) Risking them to loss every time you fly in that clone.

Having thought about it a little bit more, I see no reason why the order of slot unlocks has to be fixed/pre-defined. It should be possible for the medical facilities widow to pop up and let you select how many slots of each kind you want, tell you how much ISK that arrangement will cost, then let you upgrade on the spot. Here's a mockup of what I mean.

I'm not really sure what stand I take on this (or any sort of real input on the discussion)... but I had an idea...

I agree that upgrading your clone is sort of a waste of time. I mean its not hard to do, and you rarely ever lose SPs...

Why not have the ability to upgrade a clone to something tailored to the way you fly, build, sell, etc...

I'll give you an example... your in a faction Navy, they in turn offer you the ability to upgrade your clone to something with a mindlink ability inherent to the creation of the clone; freeing up slot 10 for something else...

Or clones specifically made to be gunners, shield specialists, merchants, etc.... (all within reason; even a clone who offered 2% on a skill would be worthwhile)

Clones tailored to the way you live...

I'd definitely pay for and constantly upgrade to something like that...

I don't like this idea it'd kill the implant market as people would just run around in expensive implants that would never be lost it's a terrible idea. On top of that there is a choice to be made you cna run around within upgrading your medical clone so that when you die you lose some sp it's not a huge loss either I once forgot to upgrade my clone and lost 20 days from a skill isn't a huge loss but there is a choice and if you don't want to have to spend more isk on a more expensive medical clone you can just stop training skills plenty of choices there as i see it
