The world map shows kills in the last day for a system. Is there a way to get any details on those kills?

The DOTLAN mapping tool shows system kills within 48 hours (up to 200 kills).

For example Jita:

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/system/Jita/kills

Just click on the universe button, select the region/system/kills

Does DOTLAN rely on people reporting their kills? World map reports 2 kills/pod kills in the last 24 hours (not last hour), but DOTLAN doesn't have anything about either.

Yes and no.

For the number of kills, DOTLAN uses the public API, so it should show the same information as the world map (maybe with some delay).

But for the details, they only show up in the private API of the loser and the victor, so one of them has to report the kill. Most PvP players do report their kills (for bragging rights) and even their losses, so most kills should show up with the details. But not all of them.

If you google 'EVE Kill' and use the search button on that killboard you are likely to get more information on kills. Not infallible but I find it pretty good.
