...a client overlay bind-able to the Naga's 12 side keys.

You know... the Razer Naga, with its 12 side buttons. I currently use the v1 (pictured)

According to the Razer Naga site for the v2, it (the v2) will have an overlay function that can be used to make the 12 side buttons correspond to a click anywhere on the client.

the overlay's transparency is adjustable, and it has native support for WoW.

I guess they're calling it the Imba. otherwise, I have no idea what "Imba" means

I like the idea of an overlay with 12 programmable click areas, because it's a step beyond hotkeys, and I'm also hoping it can be spanned across several screens to function as a type of limited, free, hotkey ISBoxer. as it is, I have to select a client before using a hotkey, and this would eliminate a step. very cool.

I've ordered one, because I also like the new, concave arrangement of the 12 side buttons (compared to the convex design of the v1), and current naga owners get a 20% discount.

I would share my code with you, but you'd probably think there's some referral benefit to me, so I'll spare us. there is a 20% discount for the first 10,000 orders, however, so find a code if you think you'll get one.

Youtube comparison of the Logitech G600 and Naga v2. I'm happy the Naga v2 has the concave side button arrangement--a feature of the Logitech that I always thought was better. However, I wouldn't be upgrading if it wasn't for the overlay feature. that strikes me as useful.

I also use a Logitech G13 and G510. (hotkey all the things. they're a lifesaver)

if there was a mechanical keyboard that offered 18x3 hotkeys, and media playback and volume control, I would prefer the mechanical keyboard. the Logitech G710 features Cherry MX keys, which is acceptable, but it's slightly lacking in hotkeys for my needs--games, web and OS navigation, art, passwords...

Razer and Logitech both have system tray configuration tools that do what you need. Logitech's configuration tool is clunky, while Razer's configuration tool is slightly more intrusive with update notifications, and the way it wants to be "always online" unless you specify offline mode. (Razer's user profiles are stored remotely. feels like DRM, which is weird for a mouse)

Imba is short for Imbalanced and it is often used as slang for being awesome.

I dont really fully understand the configurator, but it looks interesting. I have thought about replacing my Razor Lachesis soon, but I dont really think 12 thumb buttons will suit me.

I would do your research into this mouse. I have owned one for 2 years and still own one. A few months ago, I noticed issues with the mouse which caused a Doubleclick action. Razor gave me all sorts of suggestions which seemed to include updating the firmware which made no sense to me. The end result I found after researching and my own observation is that the click button component in this mouse is very sensitive and susceptible to debris. Razor eventually confirmed this with me in an email to their support. Basically, there is nothing in the actual component to protect it from a piece of dust wedging in there and blocking the buttons ability to release. After 2 years, my mouse was dead. I ended up writing a negative review on NewEgg regarding this, which Razor saw and contacted me. They were kind enough to send me a replacement Naga which I am grateful to them for, and currently using it right now, but my experience and advice is that the hardware on the mouse (compared to other manufacturers who install rubber flaps or cloth material to guard against debris) is that this mouse has some engineering issues, and they kind of went on the cheap end with the actual button component. You may find yourself down the road with a disabled mouse. I am very displeased with the Naga line and haven't had this experience with other Razor mice I have owned.

lol thanks Mizzy

Re: defects in the mice... I must have my buttons. it's a matter of an efficient interface--if it takes a thumb motion to activate a module, so be it! thank goodness for brain plasticity.

so what you're saying is... if I have trouble with my mouse, to raise hell on newegg and razer will take care of me/it? Big smile

the v1 also has a Z axis issue--it's one of the handful of mice that, when lifted and set down, will drift the pointer down and to the left.

Well, what happens is that under the mouse buttons, there is a small component which consists of a tiny plastic button inside of a metal housing. The space between the button and the housing is very slim, it's a snug fit. The problem comes when a piece of dead skin, or dust falls inside the mouse and wedges itself in between that plastic button and the metal housing, thus jamming the button down. So, it was causing a "double click" action and other issues where if you click on the computer with that button being jammed down, the computer interpreted it as multiple mouse clicks. I contacted their support and they told me it was a firmware issue (which, being a computer guy, this made no sense). After researching it online, I found this to be a common problem and most people take some alcohol or WD40 and clean that button. This, however, requires you to crack it open which VOIDS THE WARRANTY!., I did this and got it working for at least another 2 weeks. When I contacted their support regarding this and my resolution/fix, I was told that they were aware of this problem but they (as support people) could not tell me to take the mouse apart as it voids the warranty. Instead, I should have sent it into them for evaluation and repair (which costs money), and they would have done the same thing anyways. Since I took it apart, i voided my warranty and there was nothing they could do for me. So yes, I put up a post on Newegg explaining my experiences and ironically I was contacted by their higher support soon after. Long story short, they sent me a refurb, which I don't mind. I think a new one may have been better seeing how it's their problem.

The main issue is that there is nothing protecting this component, like a thin cloth material or a thin rubber piece like in some other brands of mice, all of which would have protected this component from debris.

The issue I have, is that for a what? $70 mouse or so, you would expect a little better quality out of it in terms of guarding against normal use which involves dust and debris over time.
