Rubicon: No improvements to exploration?

I used to really enjoy exploration. It took work and skill to find things of value.

Odyssey ruined it for me. It transformed something that was challenging into a case of.

1) System Scanner says: "There be bacon here"
2) Hacking minigame: "Run through the maze to find the bacon"
3) "Yay you solved the maze! Now let me throw bacon at you whilst you run about like a hungry, hungry hippo".

CCP, in their usual way, promised that they would iterate(tm) on the feature and they had great ideas(tm) for how it would be improved.

Now that Rubicon has been announced I've gotta ask. Is there going to be any improvements? Or will it be another feature that has been left behind.

The devs have said that they wanted the make the game more challenging. And also allow us to sell some of the anti-virus programs we find on the market.

There are 8 specialized exploration frigates + 4 strategic cruiser subsystems already. 2 more ships with questionable weapon system (drones) don't look too exciting. Probably devs forgot they've introduced drone-eating AI couple patches ago.

Right now the best ships to have in null pve are droneboats.

What exactly was "challenging" about the pre-Odyssey system? Or are you talking about the system before with specialized probes?

The pre-odyssey exploration was harder to get into, fewer people did exploration, which made it a lot more lucrative for the people who did. Pre-odyssey my main profession was low-sec exploration, post-odyssey i did one month of null-sec data and relic sites while the market was crashing, and totally gave up on exploration.

I think odyssey was a okay exploration expansion, the influx of new people doing exploration clearly shows CCP did something right. Which is way most people who did exploration pre-odyssey don't like it, more competition means less isk. In all honestly things was going in that direction before odyssey, all of hi-sec was over crowded, not only Caldari space with the massive amount of T3 DSP GSO cherry pickers, odyssey was just the final nail in the coffin for the people who was milking the cash cow.

Surely the combination of bacon and hungry hippo is unbeatable in all conceivable universes?

Odyssey broke data/relic sites .. as the hordes of 10 day old characters descended up on them in throwaway scanning frigs thus crashing the market. Al that was needed was to keep the rats in the sites so that people would actually have to use a combat ship but nooooo

You're being too generous. A maze can hold your interest for a bit, the minigame on the otherhand is nothing but a very tedious clickfest. And as for the bacon - well bacon is tasty and something that you actually want. Whereas Odyssey has so devalued the rewards you get from exploration - well its not exactly like rancid meat - but its not something I want anymore...

Well in low sec/null it was having to fight the npc while looking over your shoulder for other players. Now there are no npc and all that you need to use is a disposable t1 frig - which is not even worth the cost of the ammo to shoot (ofc you could use lazors though...)

Don't feel bad.

PI was released 3 1/2 years ago with the Tyrannis expansion. Except for tweaking the bandwidth on the Links and adding destructible POCO's it has not been touched at all since.

Yes, your POCO window still can vanish after clicking "Transfer".

For 3 1/2 years.

I've been playing Eve for over 5 years. Exploration was the one thing I still loved doing in Eve. After they ruined it with Odyssey I didn't log in for months.

How can anyone not like carbon? Hey, get rid of the "r", rearrange the letters in the word and you have - voila - bacon. Lol
