New nebulas and stars

The new nebula will apparently have actual locations in the eve cluster so that as you jump for system to system you will see them from different angles and distances. Our space will be properly 3 dimensional even on an interstellar scale.

CCP: What about the stars? If I'm in New Caldari will I be able to see the star in the Jita system? If I go to the Jita stargate and sight in the direction it points, will I see the Jita star?

Will the stars in the background be the stars we go to, properly placed in the background given their location in the Eve star cluster, and with their correct color and brightness?

Will I be able to figure out just where W-space is by going there looking about and finding the nebulae and stars of empire?

Or is having this level of proper 3-D interstellar space just too much to ask for?

The average galaxy has what... 300-400 billion stars? The sky's gonna be pretty empty if there are only the 5000 occupied systems.

This was done before but removed due to lag it caused. Not sure if they are going to do it again as this time have the stars as part of the background instead of a map overlay.

Well... I sincerely doubt new eden systems will be the ONLY stars you can see... distant galaxies, quasars, nebulae, etc all appear as stars to the naked eye. Hell even the Andromeda Galaxy looks like a star... but in a few billion years it will be the most amazing feature in our RL night sky...

Cool though it would be to never open the map overview when navigating space, I am opposed to lag. Maybe a toggle switch for an overlay over space when you need it, like the map overview now but subtle? ...I don't know if that makes sense... if someone can word that better you get +1

I assume it would not cause any more lag than the new nebulae. We are going to be getting a different view of the nebulae for each system, which would be just separate wallpapers for each system. CCP would just have to insure those wallpapers included stars in the right places. And I assume there would be many more stars shown that just the ones we go to.

Oh, and as the stars are not all in a horizontal plane, the stargates would have to point up and down. Space is three dimensional after all.

Yeah, I think this is something that a lot of people don't realize. What we're able to traverse in New Eden isn't the entire galaxy at all, it's just the space that's been mapped so far.

Yah... if we go galactic we better encounter some damn aliens. Aliens that make the sleepers look like p****es...

I am also wondering if we get new ship/object renders with the introduction of new nebulas.
It is obvious that we get them someday, but the question is do we get them immediately with new nebulaes or not?
This is what i mean (raw photoshopped)

Haha. You know, it would be cool to just discover more mysteries that the ancestors of New Eden left behind. I'm not too quick to jump on the idea of introducing a non-humanoid species to EVE, as I feel that sort of thing is pretty cliche when it comes to science fiction. One of the main things I enjoy so much about EVE is that its story is entirely human. Furthermore, I think the fact New Eden's inhabitants haven't encountered another species says a great deal on just how vast space is, and how that vastness demonstrates the unlikelihood of running into another spacefaring civilization.

Will we be able to see Super capital ship explosion also???

They explode with the same intensity of a star 'sun'.

Next hes going to ask if the gates can be moved so we don't warp through planets because 'that **** aint real' seeing as we live in space and have a huge understanding of space travel.

Well heres the thing.

You can cheat this galaxy wide neubla look easily.

Step 1 Build client with current star system.

Step 2 Take ungodly massive 3d cloud star mode and overlay it in the star map phsycially.

step 3, take 360x360 snap shot of the model from xyx of every star within the nebula map.

step 4 save all pictures as background associated pictures for star xyz compress distribute.

step 5 client only loads a picture instead of a painsteakingly massive model.

step 6 ????

step 7 profit!

We allready had that, but it got removed along with the seamless map zoom. Which added more to eve for me than CQ .... by far!
I really enjoyed the stars in the background wich caused a nice 3D feel when you zoomed out to the solarsystem-map.

If you can think in 3D, i fear the new nebulaes will cause you some brain itch. Some problems of the 1D-ness of eve will become aparent ... again.

Correct me if im wrong but i think:
* All stargates in EvE are alligned straight north.
* If you travel to a system thats "West" of you (according to the starmap), you will have to use the "East" gate of your system.
* same with up/down
(Noth/South is correct though)

PS: 1) Sorry for my engilsh. 2) I reserve the right to be wrong.

Actually, if you have ever been in a non-light polluted area in the world, you can literally see the milkyway.

I live in Colorado... we can see the Milky Way...

Andromeda is going to collide with us and it's much bigger galaxy... you can see it now with a telescope, but in 4 billion years give or take it will dominate the night sky so much you will be able to read a book at midnight under a new moon. No joke.

System north is usually decided by certain factors an immobile stargate can be considered such feature, just orintation twoards the galaxy center.

Mostly everything is along the eliptical I mean why not? everything intersting in a star system is along the eliptical. so system beacons and ship navigations determine this telemetry and make your ship align to it. Now how does a ship figure out up or down in WH space is byond me at the moment.

We'll have answers to the star field question some time this week, apparently. CCP Guard has indicated that CCP are expecting to release the new nebulas to Singularity sometime Real Soon Now™.

I was wondering this myself. If they can systematically place these new nebula all around New Eden according to location. Than how hard would it be to do that for the current 3D star map and just make it a transparent image over which we see them through the nebula. Also make the stars aligned with the Stargates just a tad bigger or brighter, so you actually feel like you are jumping to the next star system over ye yonder. Big smile

Dust 514 has a map just like that. I wouldn't be surprised if EVE will end up having one again.
