I think the best track in jukebox was "at the end of your journey" and "below the asteroids" was second best.

I many times turned jukebox off when I got tired of music and later after break I turned it on again. I vote for more ear candy. Old days there were good ear candy in login screens but they were removed Cry

adaptive music would be like that from homeworld or dune II, that changed based on what was happening, if you were building up, attacking, defending, losing or winning the music would change, that is truly adaptive music, what we have right now, at least for me in null, is just a depressing hum all day long.

Now from Radio Dodixie the hits just keep coming: Until All Are Free

Coming at you from the Big 4-4: Glory to the State

This is my way of saying, Eve Radio, broadcasting from the trade hubs (lore-wise), but a mix of player-made/selected (?) and CCP-made music supported in-game. Alt-tab breaks immersion: "Computer play Beethoven's 7th, please."

Agree a lot to this. Very cool.

One of my favourite "mission running" tracks is "Retribution". It triggers on some acceleration gate activations, has a slow build up of about 15 seconds, then starts into the heavy guitar & drums. This is about the time it takes to activate the gate and drop into the next pocket.

Of course if all I heard was "Retribution" it would quickly become annoying :)

As for controls, it would be nice to have a shortcut key for pausing the music or turning the music off.

Would it ever be possible to have more context aware music selection? Like, it would know when you are in PVP combat and play more intense music?

The intense music when entering a Deadspace complex for intense PVE fights isn't intense enough? Lol
But seriously. Replace all those acceleration gate phat beats with SPACEDEB.MOD. PBlink

Here are my favourite OST tracks. More like them please!
All Which Was Lost Has Now Been Regained
Below the Asteroids
But Still We Go On
It Ends Here
Stellar Shadows (the reason I would just idle on the title screen for hours)
Safe Trade Routes
Theme from Jita (because I don't spend any time in Jita)
Smoke From Down Below

Clearly I likes da house music.

Stuff that I hear an order of magnitude more frequently in game like Point of No Return, Path of the Cursed, and New Moon tends to stay off my playlist.

P.S. Licensing anything from Miss Sindel couldn't hurt. ;)

Do not actively tank my patience.

calling it procedural was a bit overkill yea, but saying that it's adaptive on type of system, sec status and so on, yea it's adaptive to that.
I'm not saying it's generated, like a huge synth and trying to compete with other games on the area.

I'm just saying that other people than me, decided that certain systems and certain sec areas should have different music.
On the topic of procedural/context aware music: I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again: You guys should REALLY look into doing what LucasArts did with their iMUSE technology, ages ago. Nintendo also did something similar in The Wind Waker as well. It allows for hybridizing procedural/context aware music with traditionally composed music, among other things.

On the topic of people turning off the music: I think one of the main complaints about the music in EVE is that it's too monotonous - I think that's not because the tracks themselves are monotonous, but because the soundtrack is, due to it basically always being the same genre: Dark ambient.

Sometimes fast paced, sometimes slower paced, but it's (nearly always, there are a few glorious exceptions, thankfully) dark ambient nonetheless. And that's fitting for a space game. But it's not the only thing fitting for a space game, and innovating there would be a good thing. You've already previously vaguely defined the various musical styles of the civilizations (Amarr station sounds, anyone?), perhaps you should expand on this.

Imagine what kind of music you would hear coming from the environment itself (not as BGM!) if EVE had WiS and you were walking around a Gallente station. Are you imagining that? Good. Now skip the WiS crap, and move the music design you'd use there right into EVE.

Since we're talking about music which artists are similar to EvE's style? Most electronic music ends up becoming not very ambient.

Such a nice track to listen to when doing something intensive like drawing or programming.

Just tossing in my vote for more of Jon Hallur's music :D

Thanks Jon for what you've made, and thanks again for making more :D !

Drones. Drones are a means to an end. An end to the ruthless Caldari 'progress' machines. An end to the barbaric 'redemption' proposed by the Amarr. What they see as chaos shall be my perfect order, merely beyond their comprehension.

Speaking of sound, I am finding I am missing the chanting in the background of Amarr stations. Can we bring that back? And maybe have announcements from time to time from Empress Jamyl for example encouraging the faithful.

And have similar personality for the other races? Quafe ads for the Gallente, or for revitaliizing tourism in the beautiful Algintal Constellation.. State propaganda in the State.. "Support the State by buying official Made In The State merchandise today."

Sounds that remind of Matar in the Matari stations.. birds, flutes, drums, water.. (Gallente are also known for the environmentalism and love of nature as well.)

Just a few things off the top of my head in terms of station soundscapes.

The sound was so important before I started multiboxing. I think it would take a lot to get to a point where it was overemphasized. We kind of need a better delivery system in addition to more content though. World sounds could be automated easier than music. Music, sound and rhythm can have profound effects on us. Its become a science as much of an art. Bin-aural beat generators could be incorporated into the world sounds. Minor variations in a tone between the left and right speakers are interpreted as subsonic frequencies that can alter our brain frequencies into many useful states for enhanced learning, creativity or focus to name a few of hundreds. Besides our brains they act on our bodies as well. Its long been known that certain portions of the audible spectrum affect our emotions.

If stuff like that was generated on the fly to various stimuli in world sounds and then overlayed with some new compositions a whole new universe of immersion could become available for us and them.

I find the music in EVE to be a particularly powerful aspect of the game. It's a matter of immersion of multiple senses to provide a more powerful impact... imagine what "A Clockword Orange" would have been without Beethoven. I don't always have the music on when playing, but I usually do. The current soundtrack is nothing short of amazing, and I for one would love to see it continually expanded. Keep up the good works. Big smile

That's the gripe, being a mission runner/miner, you end up listening to the same few tracks forever, until they just become background noise. It's and incredibly poor and uninspiring aural experience and makes a poor work of EVE's amazing soundtrack.

I haven't heard "Merchants, looters and ghosts" for ages ingame. I miss "My second residency" and was thrilled to stumble on "I saw your ship" (and then waited for it to end before jumping out of system Lol). Would like to know where do they play "New moon"...

That may be of the most annoying little stupid things CCP has done to my game. If they had to get rid of the legacy code, OK, do it, but then replace with the same functionality and new code... no need to reinvent the wheel and fix what wasn't broken, then claim that customers should use third parties to experience your content. Roses are red / Violets are blue / I am an Alpha / And so it's you

Also, I can HIGHLY recommend most of the CDs released by Instinct Records, especially Chill Out, Chllout Phase Two, their Ambient Systems series & their Ambient Boxed set. They are incredibly good collections/samplers of the genre and you'd be hardpressed to find something better in this genre.

The new ambient music is nice but I have a few issues.
(I know I can play these out of game but personally I feel these should be game features not something I need to load winamp for)

1. The awe inspiring tracks only play HighSec. NullSec while sounding creepy is just boring! I actually turn music off in NullSec now because there is no music, just one repeating ambient track.

2. The ambient music changing track every single stargate jump really ruins the immersive feel of the music, you can be enjoying Below the Astroids and feeling that nice feeling when you jump and suddenly have Nouvelle Rouvernar Hero playing.

3. Sound options outside the ESC menu for ease of use regarding sounds and music, having to blind yourself from the games goings on every time you feel you want a track change isn't immersive or enjoyable.

4. An option to disable the music change when using an acceleration gate, the few tunes it plays get repetitive and break in with every gate jump.

perhaps a new combat-themed track named "Below the Wrecks"?

or maybe "Nouvelle Rouvenor Ganker"?
